  • This does not mean school leaders act alone. It means that school leaders collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to develop the school culture, resources, and focus that support student learning.
  • Once school leaders begin to establish Literacy with ICT Across the Curriculum as a focus for initiating change, they can construct a plan to realize this vision. According to a comprehensive study that reviewed theory, research, and practice related to educational leadership, there are three critical factors related to increased student learning. These factors are the ability to maintain a positive school culture with order, discipline, support for teachers, and resources knowledge of curriculum, teaching practices, and student assessment as they relate to an increase in student learning understanding of how to increase student engagement in their learning (Waters et al.)

  • The back channel isn’t just a social space. I noted three distinct, valuable uses of back channels at WebWise:To communicate socially in an environment that does not permit open dialogue. This is the "note passing" or flirting use case.To share your onsite experience with a network of people who are not co-located with you. Where the first use case serves co-located people, this use case focuses on broadcasting the highlights of your experience to friends elsewhere.To investigate a content experience more deeply using a different set of tools than those used to convey the content. For example, you may listen to a speaker and check out related links from his work as he talks.

  • A Literacy with ICT walk-through is a short (4 to 6 minute) informal classroom/lab/library observation by the school leader.
  • The walk-through is followed closely by informal conversation between the school leader and the teacher, to facilitate teacher reflection about how to maximize student literacy with ICT.

  • Similarly, school leaders and teachers need to decide about the nature of the feedback, keeping in mind that the purpose of the walk-through is to promote reflective dialogue about promising teaching and learning practices related to student literacy with ICT.
  • Each school staff can modify their own walk-through procedures and develop a set of questions that school leaders could consider during their visits. The questions should be worded to encourage teacher reflection about their practice rather than to elicit a specific answer for the school leader.
