"Silvia Rosenthal Tolisano writes a most fascinating blog at Langwitches. We have mentioned her before on this blog and she continues to construct and then share great resources. One of her great talents is her ability to create simple and effective workflows. She does this in such a graphic way that for 'visual learners' like me they are instantly appealing.
"
Just as our students… we are acquiring digital fluency and critical literacies, which takes us beyond basic literacy of traditional reading and writing.
"Kathy Cassidy was so kind to extend a copy of her new book Connect from the Start: Global Learning in Primary Grades to me. Globally connected learning is a passion of mine, as regular readers of Langwitches can attest to. I was eager to read Kathy's book, which is grounded in authentic experiences from her 1st grade classroom."
"Part of learning in 2014 is NOT to just CONSUME information, but to also contribute and create information.
If you enjoy reading the information and resources shared here on the Langwitches blog or via my Twitter feed, consider taking the time to contribute. There is no grade assigned to your contribution, there is no certificate attached and there is no one waving their finger at you, if you don't turn your homework in.
This is about self-motivation and self-directed learning in professional development. This is about being part of learning through the power of the crowd versus alone.
This is your chance to collaborate , contribute and pushing forward in education (and LEARN along the way)! Read on…"
"Students need our guidance to use virtual platforms for ACADEMIC purposes. We can't rely on their "so called" native status to know how and what to do. Just a few years ago, no one had heard of "backchanneling", nowadays, it has become main stream (although most people might not associate the term "backchannel" and "backchanneling" with something they might be familiar with."
"Recently, I tried to explain to a teacher from another school how we are trying to use iPads BEYOND apps. We have over 100 apps on our school iPads and introduce our students according to age level to a variety of them, but the focus of the use of the devices NEEDS to remain primarily as a tool for:
exposing students to skills, characteristic of a "modern learner"
critical thinking
personal learning
transformative learning
workflow fluency
anytime/anywhere/anyhow
creating"
"ll our best strategies, plans, projects, initiatives, etc. will all come to nothing and fizzle out, if we, as educators (Yes, I am also talking about teachers AND administrators) are NOT engaged as leaders and learners."
"I am reading Visible Learners by Mara Krechevsky, Ben Mardell, Melissa Rivards and Daniel Wilson.
In an effort to document my reading, I am choosing to tweet quotes that resonate with me through the lens of my work around documentation as/for learning.
You can follow the curation of these tweets, as I am reading, in the storify slidedeck below."
