"I shared a three hour workshop for 46 Texas principals this morning at the 2011 Texas Elementary Principals & Supervisors Association Summer Conference in Austin, Texas. This face-to-face, hands-on workshop was the capstone learning event for the TEPSA eAcademy (Cohort 1) for administrators. Each administrator received an iPad at the start of the eAcademy and participated in multiple webinars (via Adobe Connect) throughout the year, learning about educational iOS applications as well as strategies for providing visionary leadership for teachers on their campuses using technology tools with students."

How do we prepare students for work that hasn't been invented yet? While it's difficult to predict what the social and economic climate will be like in the years to come, we can analyze trends and extrapolate future scenarios.

"Creating is important. In the West, traditional education has concentrated mainly on our heads, on filling them with knowledge. Little time and effort has been put into teaching students to be creative, to think widely (or often, deeply for that matter). In the past few decades, as our societies have advanced technologically, we have somehow arrived at the point where an education that places at least some emphasis on making actual real things with our hands and our minds is seen as second class, as "vocational." This is a mistake."

"Creating picture stories can be a very effective activity in unleashing students creativity. There are now some great apps that students can use to create and narrate their stories on iPad. The potential for reliably predicting the outcome of any change effort is surely difficult if not even impossible once the number of influences becomes large. Acknowledging the complexity that exists and seeing the potential for growth, creativity and innovation that can exist within an organisation at 'the edge of chaos' are useful strategies as schools face a period of unprecedented change.

"Here is another great resource of free high resolution images that students and teachers can use in their class. The Museum of New Zealand has recently made over 30,000 images available for download and re-use .This huge collection comprises images that are either under public domain or licensed under Creative Commons (which entails you to add an attribution to them when you use them)."

"There are already a lot of apps in Apple's App Store for iPad and iPhone (over 1.5 million), and more are added each day. In fact, this month an average of 1,400 apps have been submitted to the App Store. Despite the outrageous number of apps, only a small percentage end up piquing my interest. The apps I get most excited about are ones that are open-ended. I like to make things, and I love it when an app empowers students (and teachers) to create digital productions. Shadow Puppet Edu, Adobe Voice, and TeleStory are three apps that facilitate creativity. They provide students a way to retell stories, explain concepts, or persuade an audience."

The course is particularly intended for educators working with students between the ages of 13 and 18 who are interested in enhancing their teaching with creative thinking and problem solving.'"
