The Bologna group of corpus linguists has a particular interest in Corpus-assisted Discourse Studies (CADS) in which such statistical analyses are married to the more traditional kind of analyses employed in discourse studies; there is typically a "shunting" (Halliday) between statistical analyses and close textual reading. The aim of the CADS approach is the uncovering, in the discourse type under study, of what we might call non-obvious meaning, that is, meaning which might not be readily available to naked-eye perusal. Together with researchers at the Universities of Siena and Portsmouth the Bologna group has also devised a new form of CADS, denominated Modern-Diachronic Corpus-assisted Discourse Studies (MD-CADS) where large corpora of a parallel structure and content from different moments of contemporary time are employed in order to track changes in modern language usage but also social, cultural and political changes over modern times, as reflected in language.

Chinese Civilization in time and space is an innovative research tool being developed by Academia Sinica, Taiwan which aims to provide scholars with free access to GIS data applications showing maps and timelines of Chinese history over the past 2,000 years to the Qing Dynasty. It integrates geospatial materials, based on historical atlases of china, with other geographical and historical research databases including text from the Scripta Sinica, and the The Bibliography of Chinese Local Gazetteers. The Shelley-Godwin Archive will provide the digitized manuscripts of Percy Bysshe Shelley, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, William Godwin, and Mary Wollstonecraft, bringing together online for the first time ever the widely dispersed handwritten legacy of this uniquely gifted family of writers. The result of a partnership between the New York Public Library and the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities, in cooperation with Oxford's Bodleian Library, the S-GA also includes key contributions from the Huntington Library, the British Library, and the Houghton Library. In total, these partner libraries contain over 90% of all known relevant manuscripts. The site is currently in Beta release and works best when viewed in Chrome.

BDPI (Biblioteca Digital del Patrimonio Iberoamericano) is a project of the Asociación de Bibliotecas Nacionales de Iberoamérica (ABINIA). Its objective is the creation of a portal which provides access, from a single search point, to the digital resources of all the participating libraries. With this portal, ABINIA aims at disseminating the bibliographic heritage of each and every library involved in the project, enabling the largest possible number of citizens to approach their collections. At the same time, BDPI is meant to become an example of international cooperation amongst Latin American countries.This portal should also encourage all library members of ABINIA to give a firm impulse to the digitization of their collections, as well as to automation and normalization of their catalogues - adapting them to international standards for description and interchange and thus allowing interoperability, required for the development of the project.Design and creation of the portal has so far been undertaken by the National Library of Spain (BNE), who has carried out the current portal development, always keeping ABINIA informed of every step followed.

South African society and its changes over time is of particular interest for sociology and the other social sciences, because it provides a fascinating crucible for exploring the mechanisms of social change, including the eventuation of what became its distinctive overlapping hierarchies of racialised, gendered and classed inequalities, organised around segregation and then institutionalised apartheid. The 'Whites Writing Whiteness' project explores these complex matters concerning social change by focusing on one aspect of this which has been particularly associated with South Africa: it is investigating 'whites writing' and 'writing whiteness' in letter-writing and correspondences from the 1770s to the 1970s, a crucial period in South African history.

is a collaborative undertaking, involving participants from universities in Canada, the United States, England, and Australia. It is writing the first full scholarly history of women's writing in the British Isles. At the same time, it is conducting an experiment in humanities computing and providing both training and scholarly community for graduate students. The Sadleir-Black Collection of Gothic Fiction numbers over a thousand titles. Focusing on English writers and imprints, it is unique in its coverage of minor authors writing in this genre and in its holdings of original and subsequent editions of their works. Although its holdings consist mainly of English imprints issued from 1765 to 1830, it also contains American, French, and German editions dating from this time period.

EUSTACE is the Edinburgh University Speech Timing Archive and Corpus of English. The EUSTACE corpus comprises 4608 spoken sentences recorded at the department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics of Edinburgh University. These sentences, spoken by six speakers of British English, were designed to examine a number of durational effects in speech and are controlled for length and phonetic content. Subconstituents of key words in each sentence have been identified by labels in xlabel (ESPS) format and notes have been made about the prosodic realisation of the sentences. It is hoped that these recordings will be useful for phonetics researchers and speech technologists working on synthesis and recognition.

The Sheffield Corpus of Chinese (SCC) is a diachronic corpus consisting of a wide range of fully marked-up Chinese historical texts together with an integral search and analysis tool. The texts are organised in different types and genres and in different time periods. The long-term aim of SCC is to provide an extensive digital resource to facilitate study of the history and development of the Chinese language.

In the eighteenth century, a linguistic big bang spun off a new etymological universe: the language of sensibility. "Sensibility" and its related terms either appeared for the first time, took on meanings unique to the period, or gained enriched connotations. The denotations of these new linguistic planets have proved as elusive as the rings of Saturn, however. This hypertext offers a new approach to understanding the language of sensibility, one that accounts for the multiple possibilities of meaning. Rather than attempting hard-line definitions, this project offers the tools for recognizing the multivalent connotations of such sensibilious words as "virtue," "sense," and "benevolence." Our hypertext groups excerpts from major words of sensibility according to 24 primary words; we imagine the sensibilious reader exploring these passages to glean a new understanding of the vocabulary and the literature of the period.
