L'Istituto nasce dalla collaborazione dell'Università degli Studi di Milano con la Liaoning Shifan Daxue (Liaoning Normal University) e l'Ufficio per la diffusione della lingua cinese nel mondo (Hanban) di Pechino. L'Istituto Confucio dell'Università degli Studi di Milano organizza corsi di lingua cinese per tutti i livelli e tutte le esigenze, lezioni di preparazione all'esame di lingua cinese (HSK, BCT, YCT), corsi di cucina, di taiji quan e di calligrafia, lezioni-gioco per i bambini, manifestazioni culturali, mostre, rassegne di cinema e conferenze. Il ricco calendario di attività è pensato per avvicinare gli italiani al vasto e variegato mondo cinese.
