L'Istituto Confucio dell'Università degli Studi di Milano fa parte di una rete mondiale di oltre 300 centri sparsi in 80 stati (10 in Italia) ideata per promuovere e diffondere la lingua e la cultura cinesi attraverso l'accordo tra prestigiose università cinesi e straniere. L'Istituto nasce dalla collaborazione dell'Università degli Studi di Milano con la Liaoning Shifan Daxue (Liaoning Normal University) e l'Ufficio per la diffusione della lingua cinese nel mondo (Hanban) di Pechino. L'Istituto Confucio dell'Università degli Studi di Milano organizza corsi di lingua cinese per tutti i livelli e tutte le esigenze, lezioni di preparazione all'esame di lingua cinese (HSK, BCT, YCT), corsi di cucina, di taiji quan e di calligrafia, lezioni-gioco per i bambini, manifestazioni culturali, mostre, rassegne di cinema e conferenze. Il ricco calendario di attività è pensato per avvicinare gli italiani al vasto e variegato mondo cinese.

Chinese Civilization in time and space is an innovative research tool being developed by Academia Sinica, Taiwan which aims to provide scholars with free access to GIS data applications showing maps and timelines of Chinese history over the past 2,000 years to the Qing Dynasty. It integrates geospatial materials, based on historical atlases of china, with other geographical and historical research databases including text from the Scripta Sinica, and the The Bibliography of Chinese Local Gazetteers. Topics covered include: geographical changes in the Yellow River; the development of urban areas; archaeology and archaeological sites in China; a database of information on famous persons in Chinese history; a historical atlas of place names from China and Taiwan. Chinese Tools provides its users with a range of learning resources for Mandarin Chinese, from online simple language lessons, to news in Chinese and annotations of Chinese songs. From the main page, users will find links to: online Chinese dictionaries; a series of free Mandarin Chinese lessons; a Chinese phrasebook divided into everyday conversational topics; world news stories translated into Chinese; and tools converting traditional characters to simplified ones, and vice versa. The website also includes light-hearted textual information on the formation and origins of Chinese characters, and reproduces Chinese poetry and proverbs as learning tools.

Using the online Chinese Character Test, elementary, intermediate and advanced students of Mandarin Chinese are able to instantly test their recognition of some of the most commonly used characters and their meanings. The main page of the website introduces the test itself, including its browser requirements. Users must have access to a high-speed Internet connection and a Java plug-in, which can easily be downloaded via a link in the main page.

Ting (listen in Chinese) is an online resource for students of Mandarin Chinese and Chinese students of English, from elementary learners to those with more experience. The resource was devised by Marilyn Shea from the University of Maine

The Sheffield Corpus of Chinese (SCC) is a diachronic corpus consisting of a wide range of fully marked-up Chinese historical texts together with an integral search and analysis tool. The texts are organised in different types and genres and in different time periods. The long-term aim of SCC is to provide an extensive digital resource to facilitate study of the history and development of the Chinese language.

The Chinese Language Information Page is an online gateway to Internet resources aimed at students and teachers of Mandarin Chinese. The website is made up of several sections containing annotated links, which address: Chinese educational resources; viewing and listening to Chinese online; scholarly and linguistic resources on Chinese; East Asian librarianship; and Chinese language courses (featuring links to university departments in the US, Australia and Asia)

Practical Chinese Reader is perhaps the most widely used textbook for students of elementary Mandarin Chinese. This online companion to the written text was devised by Xie Tianwei of California State University, Long Beach, and contains quizzes, reading comprehension questions and grammar tests that help students learn outside the classroom

Typing Chinese Online is a simple, useful web-based tool that allows users to imput Chinese in pinyin romanisation, for them to be translated into simplified characters.
