In Vitro Fertilization - Prices - 1 views

  • Even though in vitro fertilization is a low-risk procedure, we should take into account that some of the following complications may occur: Multiple pregnancies Ectopic pregnancies Spontaneous abortion Complications associated with the punction

I think it is interesting that this website calls IVF a "low-risk procedure." Although complications are not frequent, the complications that are listed here are all very serious. The risk of multiple pregnancies is high, which can be very dangerous for the mother. Ectopic pregnancies are also very dangerous. I would expect this section of the website to include some statistics and numbers to back up "low-risk." If I was going to undergo this procedure, I would not be very comforted by this very brief section on the risks and complications.
  • Thanks to this technique, some couples with low chances of achieving a natural pregnancy, with no more than 1% of probabilities, may raise their chances up to 25% for each attempt. This places them at the same level of those who do not have any reproductive disorders, whose chances for achieving a natural pregnancy are between 20% and 30% for each attempt. The chances for success are cumulative, so that an in vitro fertilization treatment that consists of four successive attempts may raise the chances up to 70%.

Although I was not very impressed by this website I was happy to see that it showed percentages. The percentages were not specifically high, which shows that the procedure does not always result in a success. I was glas to see that this was illustrated on the main page of the website.

This site, presents a fertility clinic that does step out of the norm by presenting images of labaratory IVF techniques rather than those copious amounts of images on the majority of other fertility clinic websites that have those pictures of the beautiful parents with their newborn child, or those cute chubby wide-eyed baby pictures. Rather, this clinic's website allows the viewer to use these images as aid in understanding the actual IVF process and to allow this viewer to be comfortable with the clinic's medical knowledge. I agree with Allison, that many of these fertility clinics do present these sperm/egg logos but this website takes it a step further by presenting more images of the labartory ways of IVF. Thus as a viewer, I find a fertility clinic that condones such a website is more reliable than those that merely show the picture perfect family or the blue eyed baby, but then again it won't hurt to have both types of images.

Welcome to IVF and Genetics Center Website - 1 views

  •
I found that the website for the Advanced Fertility and Genetics Center in Oman, seemed to be one of the most comprehensible websites, a very well done website that seems professional and certified. It also explains what exactly IVF is, it seems a very honest website but it does not seem to elaborate on intricate details of IVF which perhaps some patients might want to read up on before making an appointment at the clinic. You get the feeling that the doctors are very experienced but not really from the information provided more from the pictures used which seems to be a clever technique that a lot of these IVF websites use to entice the patients. Not only are there very scientific looking pictures but there are also pictures of parents with babies. Even though it does not seem to provide too much information of the procedures they do include an acute list of the doctor's present appointments and evaluations. Overall it does not go into complex detail but it does appear to brief the viewer well enough to want to find out more and therefore, to book an appointment.

As I opened the Advanced Fertility and Genetics Center website, I was thoroughly impressed by the appeal that the site made to the general population. One of the few websites I have come across with an intro, the intro made me feel very welcome and gave me an adequate synopsis of what I was to expect. The initial pictures of the different stages of reproductive growth was appealing to me as it showed the radiance of the procedure and what can come of this reproductive technology. Moreover, the combination of pictures of families and medical professionals was attractive in showing the blend of the result and process of the procedure. The initial didactic pictured on the site engages the viewer, giving the prospective patients assurance and basic knowledge of the procedure. The structure presented by the website was easy to navigate and very informative. I liked how the website balanced the glorified result and the medical procedures of IVF. Of all the websites I have viewed, I have found very few things I did not like about this one. I think it was created in a professional manner, with a complete navigation of medical practices, success rates, etc. that is accessible and easily understood by the viewer.

The Egyptian IVF-ET Center - Home Page - 1 views

This Egyptian fertility clinc, is greatly different in appearance from the many IVF infertility clinic that are viewed in the US and Europe for instance. Although, Chanel states that this site avoids the usual picture-perfect family images or those of cute babies largely because of choice mainly to present a more medical realiable sense, that if you go with us than we are the doctors with sterile scrubs and PHDs that will carry out your IVF ensued procedure. I think that this statment is part of the reason, but the main reason that trumps all is that of cultural and religious influences, it can be possible that the ministry regulates certain images such as of partially nude babies to be found on Egyptian websites. Addiional pictures such as that of a couple possibly holding hands, for instance may be prohibited due to Islamic values, and precautions. All in all, the site, I believe does allow a potential IVF parent to feel that preforming IVF here might allow for proper medical attention by doctors that have degrees in their profession. But on the other hand, I do feel that more of family oriented visuals should be displayed to give a more loving, caring atmosphere to a website of a fertility clinic.

This website was strikingly different from the various other IVF websites from other countries. The homepage does not go into the procedure or results, but instead presents its doctors. Looking at the picture of the group of people dressed in scrubs and hair nets, I felt as though the website was focused on expressing the importance of their staff and the professionalism that they can offer. There were very few colors and the layout was very plain and dull. I felt that the website wanted to stress the credibility of their employees, listing publications and giving descriptions of some of the members of their doctors. Moreover, the one bit of information provided by The Egyptian IVF-ET Center was that it was established in 1986, further stressing their integrity. I did find this website to be appealing as it did not provide any information about the procedure, results, prices, etc. There is quite a difference between the Egyptian standpoint of marketing and representing its company and the Western viewpoint. Although this technique may not appeal to us or the Western viewers, the Egyptian culture may pride itself on credibility, in which case, viewers from Egypt may enjoy the facts about the staff.

Parents Torn Over Fate of Frozen Embryos - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  •
Why are couples having so much difficulty deciding what to do with their embryos? I feel as if my partner and I were in the same situation we would both lean toward donating the unused embryos. What is the point of leaving the embryos to get to the point where they could not be used at all? Rather, shouldn't it be an obligation on our part to donate it to research to try and help millions of people? I mean isn't it a bit selfish to want to freeze your "extra" embryos solely for the comfort of knowing they are still there. Some individuals feel that each embryo is their potential child while others do not. Perhaps it may be due to the fact that they see what they have created, carried and loved. The entire concept and idea of them having to potentially give up another baby like their very own is stressful and overwhelming. Whatever the case may be, I definitely believe that the fate of the embryos should be discussed and defined before they are created. After doing some research, I found that there are over 200,000 embryos that are left over from in vitro fertilization attempts to help couples have children. The unused embryos are frozen in labs all over the United States, waiting for a decision about what will be done with them. The United States, unlike other countries, has no rules about how long human embryos can remain frozen before a decision about their fate must be made. This has led to a growing number of unused frozen embryos, with many suggestions but little consensus about what exactly should happen to them. As it stands, couples are given the option of leaving the embryos frozen for later use, donate them to other couples, donate them for research, or just discard them. I think it is really important for couples to have a clear cut plan of what they are going to be doing with their embryos. In the article they mention a so-called "natural" way of killing the embryos..."having them placed in the woman's body a time in her cycle when she would probably n

Infertility India-IVF,Egg Donation,ICSI-Quality Infertility Treatments. - 1 views

When the Babies and US Fertility IVF and ICSI Centre website first loaded, I was thrown off by all the color and text on the page. I felt overwhelmed with information and thought it detracted from the appeal many other websites have. The homepage of the site made me feel as though they took the process as if it were a hair appointment or spa consultation. The online consultation and various options to "click here" made me uninterested to find out more on this center. Moreover, the image of the couple made me feel nervous due to their own worried expressions. I felt as though the site was very unprofessional and was not accommodating to the average viewer. The text was dense and difficult to understand with too much information to absorb at once. After noticing that this site was based in Mumbai, I began to consider the population to which the website is engaging. I showed a few sites to my mom, and asked her to comment on this specific one, and she actually said she liked it. She said that most viewers of this site know what they are searching for and would not care for pictures and attractive graphics. These viewers are more concerned with results and information, which is exactly what this site provides. After considering the different mindsets of different cultures, I realized that although this site did not appeal to my viewing pleasures, that it may in fact be perfect for others, as it goes straight to the meat of the information and provides the necessary descriptions and information of their center and procedure.

Contrary to Nisha, agreeing with her Mother, I found this to be a decent site for IVF. True the pictures are depressing, but wouldnt you be too if you were in the predicament and couldnt make a baby? People relate better with others in their predicament. This site isnt flashing happy couples with IVF babies showing off how they finally got a baby and you didnt. Afterall theres no guarentee every couple will have a successful IVF baby. The layout of this site instead is more like "Hey, we know your bummed, but try us out. Look at all our interesting facts and figures, we could probably work something out for you". Nisha's mother is also completely right in the sense that people who come to these sights dont care for fancy graphics (i think thats more a western raised thing too) but more for the hardcore results they can provide from their services.

The first thing I noticed about the Delhi IVF Fertility Research Centre's website was the colorful setup of the homepage. As I continued to search more around the website, every section I saw was similar. They use colorful title bars, large pictures, and bright writing to draw the reader in. The playful pictures of babies, especially, made the website very welcoming and inviting. Additionally, in describing some of the possibilities, the website showed pictures detailing the science behind the procedures, making the information more accessible to someone without extensive scientific knowledge. I found that the website was not intimidating at all! It seemed to be geared toward almost anyone, and seemed especially inviting to foreigners. Not only the pictures of various flags, but also a whole section dedicated to just learning some more about Delhi and what it has to offer as a city. The website was well layed-out; it was filled with a ton of information, yet did not seem overwhelming. It showed a comprehensive view of the clinic, and asserted both the professionalism and seriousness, as well as their kindness and hospitality. The one thing that surprised me was that they mentioned an "astounding success rate of 35-40%," which I feel could put some people off because it doesn't sound as promising as many people would hope. At the same time though, that proves the clinic's honesty and reliability.

I found this site to be truly representative of Indian culture. We discussed it as well in class. It most likely caters to people of the similar background so Im sure it makes a great impression off the bat. To a westerner. im not sure though. Its not exactly going for the cute baby theme pertaining to kids, its more just a stylish kind of design representative of India's colorful culture. The streets of India look like this website. Now im not saying the website looks so horrible that its compared to a third world country, but again im talking about the colors. It's like the Little Havana equivalent. At the sametime the site makes sure to relay a respectable reputation as well highlighting its recent events and providing plenty of information with great facts and figures. Agreeing with Elizabeth, I also agree they have asserted both professionalism and seriousness, while at the same time keeping themselves non intimidating.

I was very shocked when I viewed this website, that I had to research it a bit more to make sure I was actually looking at a fertility clinic type of website and it certainly is. Though this webstite is quite informing, but they lack a major aspect, which is that the website doesn't necessarily lure a particular audience into the further reading thier information. A viewer can quickly become disinterested with the website, due to its lack in images (any kinds of pictures), for that matter. It seems very dull. But the information, is quite accurate about the IVF technique and processes and since its text its clear I feel all they need is some more color, and a vast assortment of pictures including those lab images of the IVF technique.

It's illegal to receive fertility treatment in Paris if you're over the age of naturally producing? How do they monitor that? Do they check to see if the women have gone through menopause? And didn't we say in class that even if you had gone through menopause, you could still get pregnant?

I was quite shocked when I found out that this was a fertility clinic website, that to believe so I had to research more and make sure it was one, and surely it was. This particular website is free of all those 'happy go lucky' family portraits, and also of any types of images for that matter. It tends to be very dull and surely loses many of the sites initial surfers by simply lacking any luring factor, in which pictures greatly play a role in. Other than that, the website does present some informative material about the IVF treatment, but it simply needs additional a catchy coloful appearance to take it out of its dry dull state.
