Digital Storytelling with the Flip Camera

Over 35,000 teachers and other staff members took a survey and results were compared from 2008 and 2010 for ways technology is used in the classroom. It was very interesting to see the changes in just a two year span.

Great graphic. This really validates the reason why schools need to educate educators to be more tech savvy. But, the graphic itself is a little deceiving. I love the information, but its depiction seems to show more than what the growth actually is. The graphic give the impression that the base line established at the left of the scale, the useage in 2008, and then the ADDITIONAL useage beyond that in 2010. This, however, is not what it shows. What is in fact being shown is a baseline that SHOULD run down the CENTER of the graph. By not doing this it appears for example that teachers have doubled their use of technology to provide feedback, when in actuality it remained the same in 2010 as it did in 2008...38%. I don't want to discount the quality and impact of this data...I just wish that it would have been represented in a more accurate and less deceptive manner.

A blog post about Edistorm. It is a free, Post-It Note style brainstorming tool. An alternative to Wallwisher, but probably geared more towards a corporate setting. There is a limited Free account, as well as, an inexpensive Educator account. A neat collaboration and communication tool worth checking out.

At an educational technology conference in Boston July 27, Harvard University physics professor Eric Mazur explained how he uses "peer instruction" to help his students engage in deeper learning than traditional lectures can provide-and he unveiled a brand-new ed-tech service that can help educators take this concept to a whole new level.

This article by Dennis Pierce discusses events at a July 27 technology conference in Boston. The point of the article is to stress that education needs to move from information giving to student creation. He explains that students need the ability to assimilate the information given so that they can then apply it to another context. Web 2.0 tools have allowed for this "flipped" type classroom that he references, where students read up on a concept for homework, then in the f2f classroom use the higher order thinking skills....application, analysis, creation and publication with the new tools available.

Westside High School has extended learning after the school bell has rung. Teachers and parents encourage creativity and productivity to meet the needs of every student in a 24/7 learning environment. Technology is used to promote educational activities that meet students' unique needs. Communication is supported through podcasts, tweets, ipods, ipads, flip cameras and video technologies. Media literacy is enhanced by tech integration.

"This site is for teachers and educators of all grade levels and subject areas. It hosts short tutorial videos on many of the best digital tools to use with students. Its also a growing community of ideas submitted by teachers for classroom use." This should be a great resource!
