GENEVA, Switzerland - The best revolutionaries eventually find themselves hailed in tributes and enshrined in museums. So it's almost inevitable that nearly 30 years after the official birthdate of the internet, some of the net's best-known pioneers, radicals, and troublemakers are being inducted into the Internet Society's Hall of Fame. The inaugural group includes 33 of the net's most influential engineers, evangelists and entrepreneurs including internet fathers Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf; internet standards guru Jon Postel; web inventor Tim Berners-Lee; encryption pioneer Phil Zimmerman; and Mozilla's Mitchell Baker.

he dramatic advancements in technology over the last 5 years have created an environment that could support learning that surpasses anything we would have seen, experienced or imagined before. While new technologies offer considerable opportunities for improved learning, their use however has remained as a plug-on to traditional teaching methods. In this article, we discuss the impact of reinvigorating two courses where the use of Mobile Web 2.0 (MW2.0) tools was embedded within the learning process with an aim of enabling learner-generated content and context. Students and staff in this collaborative project, from two different courses, were equipped with iPhone 4s and iPad 2s for the duration of the course (n= 36, 16-week semester). A participatory action research method was used to evaluate the project and to scaffold the staff into learning and teaching in the twenty-first century. The pedagogical approach underpinning this project and the design for use of MW2.0 tools are discussed. Examples of artefacts created by the students in the project are outlined and provide an overview of the different contexts students interacted in.

L'intelligence ambiante, par opposition à l'informatique traditionnelle, constitue un nouveau paradigme de recherche qui tient aux capacités de mobilité et d'intégration des systèmes numériques (capteurs et effecteurs) dans le milieu physique au point de s'y confondre. Cette mobilité et cette fusion rendues possibles par la miniaturisation et la puissance des composantes électroniques, par l'omniprésence des réseaux sans fil, et par la chute des coûts de production, permettent d'entrevoir la composition opportuniste de dispositifs et de services dotés de facultés de capture, d'action, de traitement, de communication et d'interaction. Une de ces infrastructures émergeantes est le concept d'habitat intelligent pour l'assistance et le maintien à domicile des personnes âgées. Le laboratoire LIARA opère un programme de recherche de calibre international s'inscrivant dans cette thématique. Il vise le développement de technologies permettant l'augmentation de l'environnement physique afin de l'adapter à l'homme de façon à créer des services et des dispositifs intelligents capables de répondre à des besoins individuels, collectifs et sociétaux. 

Le concept de ville intelligente est un concept protéiforme qui a d'ailleurs différentes expressions selon les endroits où l'on se trouve sur la planète. Toutefois, ces différentes expériences ont toutes un dénominateur commun: une même volonté collective d'optimiser les ressources naturelles et de privilégier la participation citoyenne grâce à l'apport de la technologie. La ville intelligente de demain aura pour but d'être capable de répondre à des défis collectifs comme la gestion des flux de mobilité physique, de faire des citoyens des "alliés" des services publics ou encore de faciliter l'accès au plus grand nombre à la culture, au savoir dans cet espace de vie collectif qu'est la cité.
