3D printing boxes for gadgets « Ponoko - Blog - 0 views

Building fully functional electronic devices yourself is a satisfying process. That magic moment when your experimentation combines software, hardware and mechanical know-how all together to become a finished product. Add a 3D printer to the mix, and you are really in for a treat. Rob Miles knows his way around Gadgeteer, the Microsoft .NET hardware enabler that turns a developer's dreams into reality. Although he was already off to a great start, it all changed when Rob set himself up with an Ultimaker 3D printer. Designing and printing his own enclosures has given him a whole new perspective on DIY development and hardware hacking.

MakerBot Replicator impressions: the dawning of 3D printers in every home? -- Engadget - 0 views

  •
There's something universally appealing about the concept of a 3D printer -- that concept being an automated system capable of turning computer code into real-world objects. I found myself forced to give a brief overview of the technology to AOL employees in our shared New York City office space after a particularly noisy initial run of MakerBot's Replicator. Reactions to such explanations tend to follow a fairly standard arc, beginning with wide-eyed wonder as one attempts to wrap their brain around the idea, followed almost immediately by a list of things they'd love to print out, given a chance. This is usually coupled with questions like "can it print food?" and "can I print a car?" Both of which speak to that larger, vitally important question: "can I print anything useful?" This, in turn, speaks to another important concern: "how long until it pays for itself?"

3D Printing and the Rise of the Makers - 0 views

"The edge of technology is when it enables you to do something that you couldn't do before. It's one thing to put your imagination down onto a piece of paper, or into a computer program, but what if you could hold it in your hands? This is the vision of 3D printing. Digital designs can be turned into real objects using various kinds of plastic. This technology is not new, but bringing the machine home with you is - the people behind MakerBot started the company with a goal of making 3D printing more accessible."

Low Cost, Professional 3D Printer (FormLabs) Breaks $1 Million On Kickstarter | Singula... - 0 views

  •
"Form 1 is "a high resolution 3D printer at low cost" as the promotional video states. The first 25 backers gobbled up the device for $2,299, the next 100 claimed one for $2,499, and the current price of $2,699 is still available. It's important to note that this price does not include shipping, which could be significant for the international community that already paid $2,999 to get theirs. Still, compared to the recently announced new Replicator 2 printer from popular MakerBot available for $2,199, the Form 1 is definitely within the budget of many in the market for a 3D printer."

MakerBot's 3D Printer Replicator 2 Is Larger, Faster, Sleeker | Singularity Hub - 0 views

  •
MakerBot Industries, creators of the Replicator 3D printer that hit stores this past January have just upgraded their award-winning printer. The Replicator 2 has increased resolution, can print larger objects, and sports a stylish new look. And the new printer is only one way MakerBot is making a serious bid to become a major competitor in the growing 3D printing market. Just days ago the company announced the grand opening of their first retail store, located in the NoHo neighborhood of Manhattan.

D printing was once a very expensive process. (Think tens of thousands of dollars.) But lately the technology has become cheaper and consumerized thanks to companies like MakerBot, which sells 3D printers for as little as $1,800.

Imprimantes 3D : la bataille contre la copie d'objets a commencé - 0 views

  •
