my StoryMaker at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - 0 views

  •
This story maker would be great to use with elementary students who are learning about how words come together to create sentences and stories. The tool would be an excellent resource for students who struggle with writing and need a visual to help them see the relationship between text and pictures. It works kind of like a game, allowing students to select characters, backgrounds, plots, and items so that they can create their own stories. Students are allowed to see the images they create and, as they create these images, the story maker builds the text to tell the story so that students can see how writing comes together. Students are also given the ability to change the text and incorporate animations. Finally, students are given a code that lets them share the story they created with others.

Creative Writing - 1 views

  •
Our school has been pushing writing in ALL areas, even gym! I found this to be a fun way to get kids to do some writing, and in fact our 2nd grade classroom even wrote a book and published it...had a party and everything. The book is in our library to be checked out, and many parents purchased a copy!

nsf.gov - Earth & Environment - Discoveries - US National Science Foundation (NSF) - 0 views

  •
The 6th graders study social issues and many tend to choose environmental issues. The National Science Foundation OER would provide a source of information for students to narrow their topics during the research process. It provides current, up-to-date articles surrounding issues and discoveries scientists and researchers have recently discovered about various environmental issues of concern. Students are also required to write their opinion about their topic at the end of the research unit. I feel this OER resource would help students gain critical thinking and problem-solving skills they need to write an opinion on an environmental topic.

I really like this site. I collaborate with the 5th grade teacher in my district to teach a similar lesson. This OER resource you found is something I will probably refer to in the future. Thanks!

I have used this. I like that fact that it's another option for mind mapping. I could see using it before a writing assignment in a language arts classroom. The link could be assigned through Google Classroom.

Storybird - Read, write, discover, and share the books you'll always remember. - 0 views

  •
Discover an endless library of free books, picture books, & poetry or use simple tools to create books in minutes. Storybird is a creative community where readers & writers celebrate storytelling. You can set up classrooms and manage what your students are doing by creating assignments. You can make a classroom library where they make their own stories and can be read by other students. On checkout days my students have a hard time sitting there and reading, I don't mind because I know they have to do things like this in class all day long! I let them go on their storybird account if they would like, they can read what their classmates have wrote or they can make a new story.

Technology Integration Matrix - 1 views

  •
The Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) illustrates how teachers can use technology to enhance learning for K-12 students. The TIM incorporates five interdependent characteristics of meaningful learning environments: active, constructive, goal directed (i.e., reflective), authentic, and collaborative (Jonassen, Howland, Moore, & Marra, 2003). The TIM associates five levels of technology integration (i.e., entry, adoption, adaptation, infusion, and transformation) with each of the five characteristics of meaningful learning environments. Together, the five levels of technology integration and the five characteristics of meaningful learning environments create a matrix of 25 cells as illustrated below.

Thank you for sharing this. I am going to pass this source along to others in my district. I think it will come in handy when it is time to write PDPs. Many teachers are writing PDP goals that incorporate more technology into the classroom. I think this will help them define their steps and create a plan. Thanks!

A-Z: Learning About the Alphabet Book Genre | OER Commons - 1 views

  •
This is a fun lesson to be used with second graders. Our students learn about alphabet books in kindergarten, but they come back around in later reading and writing lessons. I like that this lesson offers a blend of reading, writing, and a little bit of tech. Fun!
