I love using the read write think resources. This would be a great way for students to showcase the book they're reading for display in the library.

Developing a Business Plan | OERu - Mike Slowinski - 1 views

  •
This course could be used in our high school business classes, as their curriculum covers the business plan process. It would be a great way to support a simulation where students create their own businesses from the ground up.

National History Day in Ohio - Free Podcast by Ohio on iTunes - 1 views

  •
This is a podcast series that would be appropriate for our 8th graders doing NHD research. Each of these podcasts could be assigned as homework a couple of nights before these topics are covered in class so that students come into class with a basic understanding of the content to be covered that day. I guess it would be a little bit like "flipping" the class for that day. The teacher could have a quick discussion about detecting bias in primary sources based on the information from the podcast and then the rest of the class could be freed up for students to actually rotate through primary sources and practice detecting bias.

I knew we were using this for our math students because I put a link to Khan Academy on my library libguide, but I didn't realize it covered so many subjects. Here's an inspiring video about our ability to learn. Everyone can!

Introduction to Media Literacy: Crash Course Media Literacy - 0 views

  •
Part of a video series that covers broad topics in education in short, entertaining videos - think the "Cliff Notes" version. It would be a great introduction to a unit for students, as well as teachers to enhance their knowledge of a subject. I would recommend it for upper elementary - high school. The particular video is on Media Literacy, but there are tons of other videos too - science, math, STEAM, theater & drama, etc. There are over 8 million subscribers to their channel, so they must be good! :-)

This YouTube series explains what media literacy is, its history, and why it's important. I would use this to teach teachers and new librarians. I would also use it to teach media literacy at the secondary level.

What Works in K-12 Online Learning provides a comprehensive overview of effective online teaching and learning practices. Based on extensive experience and research, chapters cover a full spectrum of topics including virtual course development, online learning in elementary classrooms, instructional assessment and differentiating online instruction, professional development for teachers of virtual courses, and the challenges that virtual schools will face in the future.
