Intro to JS: Drawing & Animation | Computer programming | Khan Academy - 0 views

  •
This is an online course that would be excellent to use with our 8th graders who are learning robotics and Scratch right now. Engaging them in several different types of basic coding activities can help show how the elements of computer programming are constant whether they are working in javascript or RobotC or Scratch, though the terminology might vary a little. This can help prepare them for more advanced programming classes in HS.

The ACT ® Mastery and MasteryKeys programs are support structures for principals and district administrators throughout the country. Our programs help schools provide best-in-class test preparation to students of all ability levels. Our programs are uniquely effective; in fact, our ACT ® Mastery program provides an average three-point increase in student scores in an institutional setting.

Khan Academy is a great resource that some teachers in our school are already using. I am exploring this course on computer programming as it fits with my research topic of coding and robotics. These can easily be used in the library or a Tech Ninja's class. There are many classes to chose from in Khan Academy.

Khan Academy would be a great resource for teachers and administrators looking for help with RTI needs. There are sections for every content area where students can test their skills via an online assessment. After several questions, content is adjusted to the specific learning level of the individual student.

This is great for auditory and visual learners taking different steps with them. The site begins various practices or content knowledge with an interactive assessment of what you know, what you need review, and what it recommends to build upon the knowledge that the student indicates they have yet to learn or are unfamiliar with. In a sense, it differentiates and it assesses as you interact. Learn for free about math, art, computer programming, economics, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, finance, history, and more. A US-Based Program To Offer Free Online University Courses For Refugees Worldwide! - 0 views

  •
This article caught my attention as I was considering Open Education Resources. This is a positive use of global learning offerings. It may not be available to all, but certainly might be to those who need it. "Looks like a good news for refugees worldwide as they can now pick from over 1,000 online university courses for absolutely free as part of an endeavor to offer education and skills training under a US-based program. The program was unveiled Monday, June 20 as a part of World Refugee Day."

Be Internet Awesome with Google | WISELearn Resources - 2 views

"Be Internet Awesome is a collaboration between Google and the Internet Keep Safe Coalition (iKeepSafe.org). It is "a multifaceted program designed to teach kids the skills they need to be safe and smart online." The resource includes a game called, Interland, that can be a stand alone tool as well as a full curriculum that enables teachers to teach digital citizenship fundamentals. The lesson plans are geared toward grades 3 to 5." It think this is a great free tool from Google that I had not heard about that allows teachers to gameify Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship. I played the game a bit and I wonder if maybe teachers should take it, as we had a phishing spam a few years ago where teachers gave personal information online to an email that looked like it came from our local credit union.

12 Ways to bring STEM to Your Classroom | OER Commons - 1 views

  •
This resource is one I would like to share with my teachers because it gives 12 easy to follow ways to build real-world STEAM applications in their classrooms. It supports the design-thinking model that we are trying to grow as a process for reflection in our building, and supports the work we are doing to grow use of our maker program. Great Resource!

By Michael Robinson Chair, ALA-IFC Privacy Subcommittee Associate Professor at the Consortium Library, University of Alaska - Anchorage Crossposted from ChoosePrivacyWeek.org The American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom demonstrated its foresight when it started the Choose Privacy Week program in 2010, launching an ongoing program to raise awareness among libraries and library users about the dangers of government surveillance and demonstrating why privacy is important, especially in light of the growing use of online resources and services.
