"But the metric system is another matter. "I don't understand why y'all don't use the metric system" is something I've heard too often. I don't argue with them because there is no technical argument for why we haven't adopted the Système Internationale - our refusal is based on emotion and familiarity."

"Technological platforms are creating unprecedented global access to new educational opportunities. But we do not know the extent to which students using these systems are learning. As educators and researchers, we must partner to ensure that these platforms not only deliver information, but also include useful metrics, standards and methods that maximize learning outcomes."

7 Things You Should Know About the Comprehensive Learner Record - 0 views

  •
"Digital student records are evolving in ways that more fully document student achievements. One such form is the Comprehensive Learner Record (CLR), a digital asset that helps students both better understand their learning and share a verifiable record of their knowledge and accomplishments. CLR content can include portfolios, learning artifacts, course descriptions and syllabi, rubrics, performance evaluations, and other materials that help document what a learner knows and can do. The CLR shifts attention away from seat-time metrics to richer measures of an individual's abilities."

Building the Alignment Triangle for Quality with Coursetune and QM - 0 views

"Presented on May 8, 2019 by Dr. Janette Isaacson and Grant Kirby form Oregon Institute of Technology It all started with the question, "Are we really sure students are learning what we think they are learning?" Hear how faculty at Oregon Institute of Technology have used Quality Matters Standards and Coursetune mapping software to strengthen course design and alignment across the courses they teach. Dr. Janette Isaacson and Grant Kirby have implemented a student-centered instructional design model that begins with three key components: QM is the foundation of quality metrics; Coursetune provides scalable modeling for alignment mapping; real-time student feedback provides an empirical measurement for quality success."

If Your Content Has Fleeting Value, It's Your Own Fault - 0 views

  •
An unrelenting emphasis on the real-time web simply does not allow for scalable results. It's shortsighted because not all content needs to be consumed in real-time and not all users even prefer it.

Nuts and Bolts: Assessing the Value of Online Interactions by Jane Bozarth : Learning S... - 0 views

"They usually want some magic metric, some formula like, "two hours on LinkedIn + four comments in groups = tangible outcomes for the organization." It doesn't work that way. A great deal depends on how the worker chooses to spend that time in social channels, how well he filters and curates information, how she chooses the people with whom she's interacting. "

Massive Open Online Adventure - 0 views

  •
"Even if you routinely teach large courses, a MOOC requires far more time to prepare and execute. To prepare the three lectures offered in a single week, my team spent about 20 hours planning and developing content. I spent an additional eight hours rehearsing my lectures. It took just under four hours to record the video for three formal lectures. I cannot speak to the editing process, because another unit at Georgia Tech does that work, but it usually takes five to 10 days to receive the edited video and get Coursera approval. Even then there is more work to incorporate any quiz links or other "in-class work" that takes place during lecture pauses. Finally there is the "Courserafication" process of uploading and configuring the content for use on our Coursera site. Formatting assignments and other content takes still more time."

Florida State University class using Klout to determine student grades - 0 views

"Thirty-five" was the answer to the following question posed to a marketing agency's hiring manager: "What is the minimum Klout score a college student can have and still be considered for an internship at your firm?" I immediately went into a state of shock - Shock that Klout has gone mainstream so quickly, and shock because my digital marketing student's Klout scores typically range from 15 to 25. As an instructor, I had to ask myself: "Am I doing everything I could to prepare my students for the real world workplace?"
