International growth of Online program management (OPM) - LISTedTECH - 0 views

  •
"The Online program management (OPM) market is growing in terms of the number of institutions using OPM providers and in the number of providers. The market is also showing signs of consolidation as the providers figure out how to position themselves in this competitive landscape. What we don't hear much about is the international trend that is also taking shape. Yes, the US market started earlier and is still larger than all others combined, but the international market is growing and becoming more and more important."

Why More U.S. Students Are Going Abroad for College - 0 views

  •
"As the cost of college in the U.S. soars to record levels, American students in growing numbers are enrolling in schools abroad, where tuition fees are substantially lower-and in some cases nonexistent. Annual tuition and fees for a private, nonprofit four-year university in the U.S. last year averaged $31,231, according to the nonprofit College Board. In Germany, universities receive so much in government subsidies that most students-including international students-pay no tuition at all."

Privacy (TBD): In the online space, what is private may depend on who you are and where... - 0 views

  •
""Privacy in this online environment is a good placeholder for many other areas of law, areas that have either an international dimension or some cross-disciplinary component," he says. "I think that the exploratory, almost playful approach that we apply in Comparative Online Privacy is helpful for other conversations, too.""

Movement of Canvas LMS to Global Markets - 0 views

  •
"Remembering that broad trends are most important in this first-view of data, we can see a big jump in 2017 thus far for international markets for Canvas. It will be interesting to update this view at the end of the year to see if the trend holds, but it is quite clear that Instructure is making Canvas a global LMS."

Racing the iPad in K12 Education - 0 views

  •
And the iPad's future dominance is far from certain. "The iPad is a powerful pedagogical tool, but we are seeing the market take its course. Other companies are now providing competitive alternatives at lower price points," says Brian Lewis, CEO of the International Society for Technology in Education.

What's the Hurry? - 0 views

  •
"We are creatures of habit, and now we can't seem to slow down.  We're constantly on the run, trying to meet numerous deadlines, multi-tasking our way into oblivion (OK, I exaggerated a little bit here). But when do we actually get to slow down and enjoy our lives?  How can we find our peaceful inner voice, when we're so busy being overwhelmed by the anxious chatter of our running (there's that word again) internal dialogue?"

So what does 2013 hold for social media in the workplace? It looks like many of the big (and sometimes overhyped) promises that have surrounded social media - better insight into customer behavior, improved office productivity with internal networks and, of course, significant, measurable ROI - will finally begin to bear fruit. Here's a look at five ways social media will impact the way we work and the bottom line in 2013.

Why Every Company Is A Technology Company - 0 views

  •
"Every single company today is a technology company. Whether you are a mining organization looking at automated trucks, a real estate firm deploying an internal social network, a warehouse looking to leverage wearable devices, an agricultural company exploring the internet of things, or a hospital interested in teaming up with IBM Watson, every single company today is a technology company. Organization's must embrace this new way of thinking because when we look at the future of work, technology is one of the most disruptive factors that also yields the greatest opportunities."

Improving Instruction at Scale - 0 views

  •
"First, it has strategically developed its own resources-through satellite campuses, online instruction, and rigorous faculty development-to extend its internal instructional capacity. For the past twenty years, UCF has supplemented its network of physical campuses with a vast, virtual extension of its instructional reach through technology. Now, nearly 78 percent of all UCF students take online or hybrid courses and 38 percent of all credits are earned online."

As Android Rises, App Makers Tumble Into Google's 'Matrix of Pain' - 0 views

  •
But there's a big downside to this Android growth: Severe fragmentation in the Android market means that startups must tune and debug their apps against a whole range of official Android versions, carrier tweaks, internal smartphone hardware, and external screen dimensions. Pundits have warned about this for years, but now the problem has come home to roost.

FemTechNet Hopes to Revolutionize SA's Higher Education Possibilities - News and Politi... - 1 views

  •
" instead of professors and students, there's facilitators and participants, instead of one-directional lectures, you have discussions, and instead of tests and quizzes you create projects and artifacts. If it all sounds too squishy and feel-good, make no mistake, this is serious learning, tackling the amazingly heady topic of feminism and technology and created by bona fide, longtime professors in their fields. It's rigorous, complex and in San Antonio, you don't need to be a college student (past or present) or even own a computer to access it. That's the new international network FemTechNet in a nutshell, one of those ideas that seems to have suddenly arrived fully formed, like Athena springing out of Zeus' head. Obviously a lot more work went into it than that, but the actual creation timeline for the Network took a little more than a year-and-a-half according to co-creators Anne Balsamo and Alexandra Juhasz, Dean of the New School's Media Studies program and professor of media studies at Pitzer College, respectively."

From a Million MOOC Users, a Few Early Research Results - 0 views

  •
"Preliminary results of a study of 16 massive open online courses offered through the University of Pennsylvania show that only a small percentage of people who start the courses finish them-and that, on average, only half of those who register for the courses even watch the first lecture. The study, conducted by the university's Graduate School of Education, is reviewing data from about a million users of the courses, which Penn offered on the Coursera platform, from June 2012 to June 2013. Two of the seven researchers involved-Laura W. Perna, a professor of higher education, and Alan Ruby, senior fellow for international education-described the study on Thursday in a presentation at the MOOC Research Conference now under way in Arlington, Tex."
