This is an article from Workshop On Computer Architecture Education in the Proceedings of the 2007 workshop on Computer architecture education. The authors are concerned about the computer science curriculum at Georgia Tech and how so many different subtopics of computing have made their way into a computer science degree. So by reconsidering what should be considered the core of computer science, they define what is necessary for a computer science student to know at the hardware level. I find this article interesting because its cause does not only apply to George Tech, but to all computer science curricula nationwide. The main academic concern of the article is the separation of operating system courses and courses in computer architecture. The operating system is so close to the architecture that the two should be wrapped into one. This would streamline the hardware and software level of interaction and reduce confusion caused by the separation of these areas of study.

This article focuses on three main points: "what is mathematical thinking, what does it have to do with mathematical content, and can it be taught." Mathematical thinking according to this article is a series of operations that do not necessarily apply just to math, like the scientific method. There are four processes in mathematical thinking which are: specializing, conjecturing, generalizing, and convincing

These authors examine the trust students have with both library search websites and other search engines such as Google. They discuss the attempt of colleges and universities to push students away from Google to Google Scholar. The authors then go on to explain how Google Scholar works and what one can accomplish from the main search page. The article explains how one can find the title of the book, book reviews, and a place to retrieve the book. It gives a number of examples of different searches that were conducted making it easier to see how to operate Google Scholar and its benefits. This article describes the reliance of students on Google and states that the only way to wean this Google reliance is Google Scholar.

This is an article from the Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education in the Proceedings of the 40th ACM technical symposium on Computer science education. The article lays out a "ground up" approach to learning a complete picture of computer architecture. Instead of learning a complex and convoluted set of rules that dictates how the hardware works symbiotically with software, the authors modularize the process by creating a hands on approach to computer architecture. By starting out at the hardware level and then building to the level of abstraction created by modern operating systems and programming languages, a complete picture of how the computer functions can be obtained. I find this article interesting as it reverses the typical approach of understanding computer architecture. Instead of looking down at the hardware from the software above, the engineer or scientist can understand the ties that are created between machine level language and the hardware.

Dugas shares that in 2004 Citigroup donated $200 million, in a 10-year program to help encourage financial literacy. With financial literacy at an all time low, and financial products continuing to be increasingly difficult to understand, their efforts were very timely. Citibank shares in the belief that it is part of the financial industries responsibility to help educate people toward financial literacy. Financial illiteracy is growing and the need to slow it down is urgent. The article also talks about Citigroup's effort to partner with organizations such as Operation Hope, giving back to the community. The commitment is a long-term investment in the community, Citigroup further encouraged their employee's to volunteer in their communities, sharing their expertise in finance which will help encourage financial literacy.

The article suggests planning financial literacy programs for students. Furthermore, the author shares with the reader that that there are laws in Oklahoma, Colorado, and other states requiring high school students to show financial literacy in order to graduate. In addition the article shares that Capital One has created branch banks operated by students at several schools as well as the National Endowment for financial education has created a personal finance curriculum that can be integrated into regular school curriculum. Research suggests that personal finance courses have not improved student financial literacy. Lewis Mandell suggest that students should be taught about finance and savings at an earlier age than high school.

Legalization of marijuana and in some cases other drugs can be a benefit to America economically and socially. There is a push to legalize marijuana to keep money out of criminals hands. Also legalization of marijuana/ drugs can help Americas defense against sovereign and international crime. Many illegal organizations around the world feed off American drugs policies earning billions of dollars for their criminal enterprises. Drug cartels and terrorist organizations use drugs to fund their operations. The article is a great reason for legalization of marijuana/ drugs. The terrorists we are fighting are feeding off the people we are trying to defend. The whole system is flawed and if America continues to fight a battle against this foreign enemy we will never win the war on terrorists.
