Twitter may not function as a broadcast medium as much as it serves as a quick relay service for sharing ideas, thoughts and concerns with others who have similar interests, both locally and at great distances. These practices typically follow the formula, articulated by Barbara Ganley, that we "blog to reflect, Tweet to connect."

So I flipped out of PowerPoint and typed this to my Twitter followers: "I need a cure for hiccups... RIGHT NOW! Help?" I hit Enter. I told the audience that we would start getting replies in 15 seconds, but it didn't even take that long. Here are some of the replies that began scrolling up the screen:

The World Simulation was an amazing success this year, thanks in part to the use of Twitter and Jott, which allowed students to send live updates of major events through their mobile phones.

Scholars, advertisers and political activists see massive online social networks as a representation of social interactions that can be used to study the propagation of ideas, social bond dynamics and viral marketing, among others. Today I was talking some collaborators on LLL3D about how to visualise concepts in Second Life. I remembered I had seen some twitterers mentioning that the University of Iowa had a visualisation of Bloom's taxonomy, I did a search and found that they had interactive models of both Bloom's taxononmy and Wenger's Communities of Practice.
