Open teaching is described as the facilitation of learning experiences that are open, transparent, collaborative, and social. Open teachers are advocates of a free and open knowledge society, and support their students in the critical consumption, production, connection, and synthesis of knowledge through the shared development of learning networks.

Networked teachers began to use a number of types of tools and connected well beyond what was normal within a "typical" teacher network. Teachers are not just connected WITH these tools, they are connected THROUGH these tools to other humans. The most important part of PLNs, in my opinion, is how they can help us connect to other humans, to help us better understand the world, to negotiate knowledge and meaning, and of course, to help us to learn.

Our primary source of knowledge for this workshop is your stories about digital identity. Not your academic writings, or well-observed insights: those, we hope, will come later. First, we're asking you to contribute a small story in which you are the main charecter (or at least a first-hand witness), and which you believe illuminates an interesting aspect, or dilemma, of digital identity.

The rSmart Group, Inc. (rSmart) today announced they have been selected by Rhode Island Network for Educational Technology, Inc. (RINET) and its consortium membership made up of RI's K-12 schools and districts to implement and support the statewide initiative to make ePortfolios available to all K-12 students by 2008. RINET will support the rSmart OSP ePortfolio(TM) to improve RI districts' ability to monitor and measure student performance and progress while allowing individual students to demonstrate skills, knowledge and abilities.

We are researching without having an impact, speaking without being heard and writing without being read. Furthermore, our tenure and promotion procedures reward publication more than they do awareness of the field, thus pushing up conference attendance, and journal and book submissions.

The Provost's Office will make the scholarly article available to the public in an open- access repository. The Office of the Provost, in consultation with the Faculty Committee on the Library System will be responsible for interpreting this policy, resolving disputes concerning its interpretation and application, and recommending changes to the Faculty.
