TWC301: Multimedia Writing

This site offers quizzes to see if I'm understanding the concepts! It also presents some good pointers about avoiding making a joke or overwhelming the reader with technical information that isn't necessary. It also suggests the use of the present tense. Through its examples, this site in particular emphasizes that in writing instructions, keep the audience in mind. This will be important for me to remember when working on my project.

Another good website to inspire ideas about emphasizing your design. It also has great examples. There are also great key points that will help in choosing what to emphasize. The website itself was nicely laid out. I enjoyed it very much.

I really thought this was the best webste that i came across out of the three because the writer wrote this article in a very simple way and was easy to understand what is meant by emphasis. The writer did not use anything was to hard to understand, another thing that i found to be very helpful was how she gave the reader ideas on how to improve using emphasis in things that you do in regards to layout and design.

This article went over mostly everything that the reading had presented, however the author made her version of presenting Emphasis in a way that even a elementary student would understand. What helped get her points across as by using two examples for emphasis and then went on to explain what approach the design teams used in form of emphasis.

Good usage of layout and placement of visual elements on this website. It's catchy for their audience because of their design and color.

This website states the different audiences for specific interest or group of people. Chapter 1 says: "the more you know about your audience, the better equipped you are to attract their attention..."

Emphasis simplifies the reader's task and helps picks out essentials in the message. It also proceeds with the design and decides what is important.

This website features tons of examples of different types of HTML website templates. You can take a tour of the site so that you know how to use everything that the site has to offer. This site features shopping carts, image galleries, Flash animations, contact and quotes forms.

This is a library for web designers to go too if they ever have any questions, or need some guidance on what they're doing. It has tutorials for just about all of the topics. I will definitly use this web site if I ever am designing a web page.

This website explains what graphic design is, and the basics of graphic design. Career information is given for anyone that is interested in using graphic design for their career. Also, it gives you a list of different types of schools that you could be interested in looking into if you want to further your career in graphic design. It states that graphic design is a "creative career that finally rewards you for all of those doodles you'd make during class."

This website is helpful to those who want more examples and explanations for Visual Hierarchy. I also enjoyed how it did not offer only one page of content, but it gave you a plethora of information in a very easy to navigate website. 

This website provides tips on creating a visually appealing flyer. I highlighted what I found important! 

This website gives examples of several common mistakes people make when trying to use emphasis. These issues can occur when the emphasis is more of overkill than beneficial, such as when emphasis techniques are overwhelming. Other problems include inconsistent emphasis and illogical function, meaning that there is emphasis on unimportant details.

Web Design

The colors in a design are very important and they should be used very carefully. The primary and secondary and tertiary colors are important to know and understand for your design to look nice.

This site is really simple but offers some good points about designing effective logos. The textbook offers an example of logo design, so I wanted to explore some more information. According to this site, there are four main principles: the logo should be simple, versatile, memorable, and relevant. One good point the author made was that most of the top corporate companies use only one or two colors in their logo. A logo must also be expected to appear in many different formats, ranging from a billboard designed to be seen from a distance to a logo etched onto a pencil.

Study questions on Daniel Pink's book, "A Whole New Mind," which has a chapter on design. Other chapters in the book also have tips on good design. I really love Dan Pink's design viewpoint, which is that we can find or create good design in everything.

Blog with a short video interview of Daniel Pink, author of "A Whole New Mind" which teaches to surround ourselves with good design. It starts slow, but is worth watching.
