China largest producer and consumer of plastic pipes - 0 views

  •
"China has become the world's largest producer and consumer of plastic pipes. In 2013, China's plastic pipe output and demand reached 12.1 million tons and 11.117 million tons respectively, representing the respective year-on-year increase of 10.0% and 7.1%. The output of PVC pipes is higher than that of other plastic pipe varieties in China, followed by the output of PE pipes and PP pipes. In 2013, China's PVC pipe output hit 6.59 million tons, accounting for 54.5% of China's total plastic pipe output, while the output of PE pipes and PP pipes shared 40.5% together. "

Replacing pipes made of polybutylene - 0 views

  •
While older municipalities across Canada are busy replacing lead distribution water supply pipes that have been in the ground since the last century, others are having to replace pipes made of polybutylene (PB) that were installed as recently as 25 years ago. The polybutylene plastic service pipes were installed in the 1970s and 1980s to connect street mains to the home as a cheaper alternative to copper piping. However, the polybutylene pipes were subject to collapse, and over time have become brittle, are cracking and leaking water.

XVII Plastic Pipes Conference - 0 views

  •
That plastic pipe systems continue to gain market share through supplanting competing pipe materials such as copper, concrete and steel due to easy and low cost installation as well as long term performance, Stephen Boros who is also VP Engineering for Pipelines Plastics, LLC explained. "In North America, these inherent advantages are now further supported by the development of the shale oil and gas industry. This development not only benefits the energy market but also represents a more secure long‐term supply and cost advantage from a power costs to raw materials stand point. Technology transfer will undoubtedly propel the growth of demand for plastic pipe systems in other world markets."

US - World copper tube and pipe market analysis - 0 views

  •
According to a recent report published by Global Industry Analysts, the global copper tube and pipe market will exceed 3.6 million tonnes by 2015. While mature regions such as North America, Western Europe and Japan exhibit flat or negative growth, emerging economies in Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe and the Middle East will generate significant prospects for the copper tube and pipe industry. The fastest growth will be realised in China because of its ongoing industrialisation and urbanisation activity.

Prysmian Group strategy - 0 views

  • Over the past years Prysmian has been investing in the construction of the Vila Velha plants for umbilicals and flexible pipes with the aim of diversifying and further expanding its activities in the market of technology and products for the OG&P industry. The flexible pipes plant has complemented the umbilical plant, opened in 2007, and the addition of flexible pipes to its product range has enabled Prysmian to offer the OG&P industry a comprehensive range of SURF products (Subsea Umbilicals, Risers and Flowlines). Now thanks to the merger between Prysmian and Draka, the Group can rely also on two plants in North America, thus broadening the available range of products technology to special Down Hole Technology (DHT) systems (manufactured in Massachusetts and New Jersey) and creating interesting cross-selling opportunities to accelerate the business’s expansion also in new strategic areas such as ASEAN, Northern Europe and Western Africa.

8Mb rADSL is a far off pipe-dream - But it's what I'm charged for. - 0 views

8Mb rADSL is a far off pipe-dream - only speed advantage over a modem is the connect time. But it's what I'm charged for.
  •
Another factor in the local network copper/aluminium/fibre mix. Consumers are paying for high speed and getting something in between. This isn't underpinning demand its causing consumers frustration.

Why an Intelligence Explosion is Probable - 0 views

  • But if nature was forced to use the pipes-and-ion-channels approach, that leaves us with plenty of scope for speeding things up using silicon and copper (and this is quite apart from all the other more exotic computing substrates that are now on the horizon).  If we were simply to make a transition membrane depolarization waves to silicon and copper, and if this produced a 1,000x speedup (a conservative estimate, given the intrinsic difference between the two forms of signalling), this would be an explosion worthy of the name.
