Readworks.org is a reputable source of excellent lesson plans and reading passages focused on teaching reading comprehension.  This fall, they are developing over 1000 new CCSS aligned and Lexile-leveled non-fiction and literary passages and question sets.  This free resource will be an excellent supplement for teachers.

With 100 specialized search engines for academic research listed, you are certain to find some new ones.   Some of my favorites are included in this list.  The list is organized into helpful catagories by subject or discipline.   One of my favorites for History is listed here, the David Rumsey Historical Map Collection.  The collection has over 30,000 images, searchable by keyword.

Kathy Shcrock is one of my favorite edtech "gurus." I never read her blog or visit her site without learning something new and bringing home a new idea or "gem" to share. Take a look, and see if you agree.

Excellent free units made available from Odell Education. Units on Close Reading and making evidence based claims for grade 6-12 are available here. All materials are included including the texts. Each unit is designed to be 3 weeks long. The materials and models here are very well aligned to Common Core standards and could serve as excellent models for teachers adapting to teaching the new standards.

Smart Board Resources

Thanks Dorie! These look good. It is important to remember that SMART notebook files can be imported into Promethean ActivInspire or Mimio Studio for those who don't have a SMART board or the SMART software. The reverse is true as well, Promethean flipcharts and Mimio notebook files can also be imported into the SMART software, but in this case, they must first have to be exported as .iwb files. It is important to remember, however, that when you export and import files into different software, some of your formatting may be lost and will need to be restored. In a press release on Monday, August 19, PARCC, the assessment consortium developing the CCSS tests, announced the release of additional paper-based sample test items in ELA and math. This is great news for us as we work to implement CCSS and PARCC-like assessment in our classrooms. On the PARCC website, you will see a list of links for each grade level and subject in the left sidebar. Visiting each link brings you to a page with a table describing the kinds of tasks that will appear on the PARCC assessment. Links to the sample items are within this table. This brand new FREE service provides excellent news-style current event articles on a variety of topics that are written at multiple levels of text complexity. You can adjust the Lexile level of the text with a few clicks! Teachers can create student accounts and assign texts. Each text has a built in quiz linked to CCSS standards. This tool should be very valuable for any teacher trying to meet CCSS standards for informational texts while addressing differentiated reading needs among her students.
