    "Estimados Amigos, debido a las innumerables especulaciones, dichos y malos entendidos, relacionado con la "declaración" Obispado v&s grupos animalistas de Punta arenas UddaChile aclara lo siguiente : UddaChile no se desdice ni desconoce todo lo relacionado por los dichos del Obispo. Se firmó la Declaración por el voto mayoritario de los grupos participantes, pero UddaChile NO compartió todos sus puntos, de hecho una vez leída, los integrantes de Udda se retiraron sin dar declaraciones. Salvo el punto Nr 2 sobre el repudio "a la matanza salvaje" y el punto 1 sobre el rechazo "a la toma y destrozos de la Iglesia Catedral" contaron con la aprobación del Grupo UddaChile. Lo relacionado al punto 5 sobre " las declaraciones de la presidenta de Udda fueron sacadas de contexto", tiene relación a un hecho producido por un medio de comunicación local (tv) donde se editó toda una frase desvirtuando la realidad a los dichos. Estamos trabajando desde el primer día de la matanza, para encontrar el apoyo legal necesario para ubicar y denunciar a los responsables de la muerte cruel de estos animales aceptando cubrir todo el gasto monetario que esto significa si es necesario, como también realizando contactos con Alcaldía y Parlamentarios de la zona, para no dejar impune estos actos ilícitos. Estamos a la espera de los resultados de la necropsia como así mismo estamos recibiendo los datos de los dueños que se vieron afectados por la muerte de su mascota para presentar una querella por esparcimiento de productos tóxicos.     Acá pongo mi comentario, que en la web de La Tercera me resultó imposible: "Sería bueno que se publicase el estudio en que se basan. Qué metodología se usó? Cuándo se hizo el estudio? Quiénes lo hicieron?  Crucial sería ver la información desglosada por comunas. La clasificación aquí presentada ignora la existencia de los perros perdidos. En Chile, q yo sepa, no hay estudios sobre el particular. Sí en otros países. Un ejemplo: Campina (Brasil): allá el 70% de los perros de la calle son perros perdidos. Muy probablemente se repite acá la historia. Según declaraciones de expertos chilenos, las observaciones preliminares así lo indicarían. Falta hacer el estudio. Importante -muy importante- este punto. Pues si no atendemos al problema de los perros perdidos, no podremos diseñar estrategias destinadas a terminar con dicho problema. Nótese que si evitamos que los perros se pierdan, y si -una vez perdidos- creamos programas serios de reunificación familiar, necesitaríamos muchíismos menos hogares adoptivos, tendríamos muchísimos menos perros dando vueltas por la calle. Por lo demás, una nueva perspectiva entrega esperanza, nuevas vías de trabajo. En sí mismo es importante. Nunca se logró solucionar un problema con la misma mentalidad que se creó. Es necesario actuar en base a estudios serios, nuevos, y arremangarse consecuentemente. Las comunidades que lo han hecho así han logrado de la noche a la mañana prácticamente terminar con los perros de la calle. Referentes los tenemos en todo el mundo, desde EEUU a Argentina, España, Holanda o Brasil (y ojo, se arregla a nivel local). Gran referente teórico y práctico es Nathan Winograd, que habla de la ecuación No Kill (sacrificio cero): se deben poner en práctica una serie de programas y servicios, todos, en práctica.   • Parvo is preventable and treatable and every animal shelter has an obligation to both prevent and treat this disease.  Parvo in shelters is prevented through the practice of vaccination prior to or immediately upon intake, good housing practices and standard disease prevention cleaning protocols.  The disease is further prevented by ensuring the community’s dog owners have easy access to low cost vaccinations for their pets.
  • Treatment options for parvo dogs include in-house care if sufficient resources exist to provide isolation and appropriate veterinary care.  If the facility is not equipped to provide treatment, parvo dogs may be transferred to another shelter with appropriate facilities or to a private veterinary clinic.  Donations may be solicited from the public if necessary.  The media can help in educating the public and spreading the word about the shelter’s efforts to save lives.  The days of blanket killing of shelter dogs for parvo or exposure to the disease are over.

  • At a well run No Kill animal shelter, there are a variety of ways to respond to animals, depending on the reason that animal is in the shelter in the first place. There is not a one-size fits-all strategy of impound, holding period, adoption or killing, as is common in traditional, poorly run, high kill shelters. Each animal is treated as an individual, and the needs of every animal are addressed and met on a case-by-case basis.
  • When their animal control officers find lost animals in the field – they knock on doors or call the numbers on tags so that they can take the animal home instead of impound him/her.
