Okay, so I found this blog. Talk about useful technology and a plethora of it! Basically, they've collected the Youtube videos that could be used in the classroom. It's nice because it allows you to find everything in one place.

An interactive White Board (IWB) or SMART Board has the potential to deliver content better than traditional methods of teaching. Why? Because it provides multi-media functional interaction across audio, video, and computer media. It is also ideal for visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. These qualities of an IWB also promote the dynamic delivery of content (if used to its full potential) in an engaging manner, which allows students to interact with science or math content their self. Examples include: * data manipulation * responding to data * even creating data So with all these attributes - "How are interactive white boards unsuccessfully used in science and math classrooms?" For the most part - not effectively!

The top five search tools for finding Flickr images are designed to help teachers and students locate just the right image for use in any subject area and project. Without these tools finding the right image on this image hosting site is often an impossible, or at least a tedious, task. The value of this site is its ability to provide digital pictures which are often impossible for a teacher to obtain any other way. Like everything else on the internet, trying to find something is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. This where the top five search tools become valuable resources for teachers and students trying to find images comes into play. These search engines are specifically designed to search the more than three billion pictures on the Flickr hosting site.

Stimulating critical thinking using technology has the potential to create more in depth understanding of science and math content by students when engaged in learning activities which integrate in-class and on-line technology resources. Technology tools support stimulation of both inquiry-based and critical thinking skills by engaging students in exploring, thinking, reading, writing, researching, inventing, problem-solving, and experiencing the world outside their classroom. This is accomplished through learning content through the lens of video to multimedia to the internet (Using Technology to Improve Student Achievement, NCREL, 2005).

The iPod Touch brings a new dimension to teaching and learning in the science or math classroom - Mobile Learning! No longer are students required to only learn within the confines of their classroom when using this digital tool.

The use of web based technology is growing by leaps and bounds every day. These online tools are the new set of keys for opening your students' minds. The vast resources on the Internet are making the use traditional methods of teaching and learning obsolete in countless ways.

When word of a natural disaster is spreading from somewhere in the world or announced on the news, students can use Google Earth to conduct an investigation of the disaster's effect.

What is Wallwisher and why use it? Its a Web 2.0 application which allows students to express their thoughts or share information on a science concept.

Google is not just useful for conducting searches for information on the Internet. In fact, it can be used and manipulated with cool and tricks in ways which help you and your students search for information about science and math with more effectiveness. Along with all subject areas students are engaged in school. The tips and tricks designed to help you and your science or math students take advantage of Google's search engine.

This site gives advice on using Nintendo Wii to teach different physical fitness curriculum. Not helpful for my content area, but very interesting way to use this technology in an educational way.

I first came accross this in the BYU Museum of Art. The plaque described the artist as "is a video and electronic media artist who critiques popular media genres by humorously subverting their intended messages and exposing our engagement with their often juvenile content...The artist presents us with a voyeuristic world in which alternative personas can be digitally appropriated. His work poses the question: Can one find meaningful relationships in a virtual world?" Besides being an example of using technology to create art, I like the questions it raises. Do you think that technology can replace meaningful interactions?

Exactly what it sounds like. Plus it was named "Best resource sharing blog" in 2008 by Edublog, so apparently it's pretty cool.

I found this blog under the list of Edublog award winners and thought it was really interesting. It has posts everyday for new ideas for using technology in the classroom. For example, for today there is a post about Gapminder, a type of graphing technology that can be used for lesson plans, quizes, and animations. I also really like this blog because it gives links to each application and then has a whole section on how it can be realistically applied in the classroom.

Unfortunately we won't always have access to BYU's amazing resources. This blog gives ideas for ways to use technology in the classroom free of charge! Woohoo!

This is a great example of asynchronous video chatting! You can post a picture or slide, and then hear people's comments---just like you would in class. I think I'll use this for my online section.

Digital Media follows the old adage "A picture is worth a thousand words!" when it comes to science and math. The use of visuals is ideal for helping students construct background knowledge for developing a better understanding of science and math concepts.
