Flipped Classroom webinar - 0 views

  •
"The concept of "Flipping the Classroom," which involves having students learn independently from video-based lessons and do their "homework" in school with the teacher's help, is gaining popularity - and a successful track record. It looks different in different classrooms and is also known as inverted learning. The practice has a wide variety of uses that are transforming student learning. This Webinar will feature the two educators who coined the term and representatives from two award-winning districts that have taken the concept and made it work well for their schools. You'll learn exactly what a Flipped Classroom is, why it works, how to do it, and where it is in practice today."

CHARTS: It's Nearly Impossible To Make A Livable Wage Without A College Education - 0 views

  •
"The Center on Education and the Workforce at Georgetown University studied the likelihood that workers without a college degree will still be able to find employment in the future. The report studied data about job opportunities and skill requirements through 2018 for 16 career fields. It used $35,000 as a livable wage baseline and compared unskilled workers, those with no college education, to middle skills workers, those with at least some college education. Among the report's findings: Women will need to have a college degree just to make as much as men with high school diplomas and job growth for people without college degrees has fallen 72 percent since 1973."

By embracing 'new tech,' Manor school district is finding success - 0 views

  •
"Five years after New Tech High School opened, graduation rates there have topped 97 percent. That's enough to convince Manor school district leaders that the project-based learning program should be expanded districtwide. Administrators at the 7,600-student Manor district on Travis County's northeastern edge - where two of its 11 traditional schools received the state's lowest rating this year - see the program as transformative."

Interactive Biology, by Leslie Samuel - 0 views

  •
"Here's the thing - I have a theory. My theory is that most people who don't like it, don't like it because of the way it was taught to them - A bunch of $100 words by a very intelligent teacher. Now, I'm not trying to bash on teachers because they (we) are important. However, sometimes, it is necessary to break down concepts into little bite-sized chunks. That is what Interactive Biology is all about - Breaking down the concepts in biology so that if a Freshman in High School wants to understand Graduate-level Neurobiology, with enough discipline, she could do so. Technology is AWESOME, and I enjoy using it to enhance my classes. The internet continues to amaze me. It's such a useful tool that can help anyone who wants to learn about any subject. Well, if biology is the subject you want to learn about, this is the site for you."

The 20% Project (like Google) In My Class | Education Is My Life - 0 views

  •
recently assigned a new project to my 11th grade English students: The 20% Project. Although it's called a "project", that term is merely for student understanding and lack of a better word. This project is based on the "20 percent time" Google employees have to work on something other than their job description. It has been well documented, and Google has exponentially grown as a company while giving this 20 percent time
