The NCRTI publishes the Instructional Intervention Tools Chart to help educators and families select instructional intervention programs that best meet their particular needs. Through intensive, individualized interventions, Fast ForWord Language Series helps districts move elementary Tier 3 students, as well as struggling students, English language learners, and those with special needs, toward grade level reading skills-and success in the general classroom. Fast ForWord Language Series is part of the Fast ForWord family of educational products that accelerates learning by applying proven research on how the brain learns. The products can improve student achievement by one to two years in as little as eight to 12 weeks."

"The Center for Response to Intervention in Early Childhood: Using Early Detection and Prevention Strategies to Identify Struggling Students Before They Fall Behind IES research scientist Kristen Lauer interviewed principal investigators Judith Carta and Charles Greenwood on their thoughts about the Center for Response to Intervention in Early Childhood (CRTIEC) that began in July 2008. This 5-year project is conducting focused research to develop and rigorously evaluate and replicate intensive interventions for preschool language and early literacy skills and develop and validate an assessment system linked to these interventions. In addition, the research team is providing national leadership on development and implementation of Response to Intervention (RtI) models for young children and conduct supplementary studies related to RtI and assessment issues. The Center's long-term goal is to prevent disabilities in reading by increasing the number of young children who enter school with knowledge and skill in early literacy and language."

This paper, "Frameworks for Response to Intervention in Early Childhood: Description and Implications," has been jointly developed by the Division for Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional Children, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and the National Head Start Association. The purpose of the joint paper is to define early childhood response-to-intervention frameworks and to promote a broader understanding and discussion of the topic.

When people perceive themselves as similar to others, greater liking and closer relationships typically result. In the first randomized field experiment that leverages actual similarities to improve real-world relationships, we examined the affiliations between 315 ninth grade students and their 25 teachers. Students in the treatment condition received feedback on five similarities that they shared with their teachers; each teacher received parallel feedback regarding about half of his/her ninth grade students. Five weeks after our intervention, those in the treatment conditions perceived greater similarity with their counterparts. Furthermore, when teachers received feedback about their similarities with specific students, they perceived better relationships with those students, and those students earned higher course grades. Exploratory analyses suggest that these effects are concentrated within relationships between teachers and their "underserved" students. This brief intervention appears to close the achievement gap at this school by over 60%.

Fast Track is a comprehensive, multi-site intervention designed to prevent serious and chronic antisocial behavior in a sample of children selected as high-risk at school entry because of their conduct problems in kindergarten and home. The intervention is guided by a developmental theory positing the interaction of multiple influences on the development of antisocial behavior."

A project of this nature, allows students to disseminate knowledge in a digital format that is congruent to the world in which they live. Wiki technology and the ability to instantaneously communicate across cultures and physical boundaries means that nothing our students create is isolated. We not only want our students to learn, but understand how the puzzle pieces fit to create the world in which we live."
