Librarians prevalent in use of social media - Analysis & News - Research Information - 1 views

  •
Taylor & Francis sought to address some of these questions by conducting research into how the library community is currently using and applying social media. Libraries have been particularly prevalent in their uptake of social media, and use it as a key medium for engaging with their users.

This was linked to in the article, "14 Ways K-12 Librarians can teach social media" in module 5.2. It looked to be so handy, I was inspired to attempt to use Diigo for the first time for personal bookmarking. Then I thought I may as well try sharing as well.

  •
There's no question that Facebook is the world's biggest social network and will probably continue to be for some time. But the way we use Facebook is changing: gradually, it's becoming a far more passive hub for our online social interactions.

Yidarra Catholic Primary School social media guidelines - 1 views

  •
Yidarra's social media sets out appropriate use of social media for both staff and students. It has a lengthy list of inappropriate use of social media, making it very clear what is not acceptable. This policy is unique in that it also has a section dedicated to privacy with an appendix dedicated to the use of images and link to a form for parental permissions.

University of New South Wales Digital Media Policy - 1 views

  •
This policy illustrates the overarching framework that the University of New South Wales use to ensure that all digital media used for online teaching and learning, marketing, recruitment and publicity meet the university's guidelines when created and distributed. Of particular interests is the more formal template used for the police, as well as the visual overview of the policies, procedures and guidelines that relate to all digital media at the university.

  •
Abstract: "Social media is now widely used by librarians to fulfill a variety of objectives. Taylor & Francis has collated a range of opinion and data within this white paper to provide an overview of how social media is currently used by librarians, for what purposes, and to what effect. Our research program comprised focus groups in the UK, USA and India."
  •
Why study social media in the library? Social media has the potential to facilitate much closer relationships between libraries and their patrons - wherever users are based, and however they choose to learn about and access library services and resources. Current usage of social media by the library community generally remains ad hoc and somewhat experimental, but the uptake of these tools is accelerating, and they will likely play an increasingly important role in library service provision and outreach in the future. This white paper has been researched and compiled by Taylor & Francis to provide an overview of current practices relating to the use by libraries of social media, from a world-wide perspective, against which individual institutions can benchmark their own activities and be inspired to try new approaches. This white paper is just a start - we plan to build from this a central web-based resource on social media for the library community that will provide ongoing updates, in-depth case studies and best practice guides. We hope this will become a valuable, developing resource that librarians will access and contribute to, so the entire community benefits from sharing ideas and experiences.

Facebook for libraries - 4 views

  •
Using Facebook can be an effective way for academic libraries to connect with their user community. By posting updates on Facebook, libraries can inform their users about the library's programmes and services. They can invite students to attend training sessions, post practical information about the library's opening times, link to new and existing print and online resources, and update the university community about any new developments.

Use of facebook by libraries does work and if kept current gets regular followers. It was good to see that we are doing many of the suggested things and also contained some ideas to be considered and applied. Here is ours https://www.facebook.com/pmhclibrary/

Student Inquiry and Web 2.0 - ProQuest - 0 views

Web 2.0 applications are changing how educators interact both with each other and with their students. Educators can use these new Web tools daily to create, share, socialize, and collaborate with students, colleagues, and newly developed network contacts. School librarians are finding that Web 2.0 tools are bringing them more ways to embrace and promote new learning environments for the 21st-century learner.

6 Rules for Creating Killer Email Campaigns - 1 views

  •
When planning your marketing mix, the most important component is email. Why? Because it's the easiest way to reach people, considering that 85 percent of the world and 91% of the US have an email address and check their inboxes daily
  •
FYI. Remember people frequently check their emails on mobile devices and if your email does not display well or interact with easily, people will start to dismiss your email "marketing newsletters", and flag them as read later pile or worst the never read pile.
