My workplace context is an Academic Library where I worked as a Library Information Officer (Library Technician). The articles and Social Media Policies I have selected are relevant to Academic Libraries.

Connecting best practices in public relations to social media strategies for academic libraries

This article focuses on the analysis of data collected from a Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries [VCU] survey undertaken in 2015. The article describes and provides examples of VCU social media management changes made since 2005. This article provides an excellent insight into the challenges associated with managing social media in an academic library environment and provides sound recommendations for social media planning.

Queensland University of Technology Social Media Policy

The Queensland University of Technology [QUT] Social Media Policy http://www.mopp.qut.edu.au/F/F_03_02.jsp. provides clear information regarding social media use and expected online behaviour. It also provides links to related documents and policies and procedures which is useful. The QUT social media policy is standard and could be used as a basis for Academic Libraries developing their own Social Media Policies.

Should your library have a social media policy?

Ellyssa Kroski discusses the importance of having a social media policy and provides a list of points that should be considered when developing a social media policy. Although the article was written in 2009 the information is still relevant and offers practical advice for social media policy development. Examples provided are specific, clear and honest, they do not require interpretation and could be more effective than normal blanket policy content. http://www.slj.com/2009/10/sljarchives/should-your-library-have-a-social-media-policy/#

Australian Catholic University Social Media Policy

The Australian Catholic University [ACU] Social Media Policy https://www.acu.edu.au/policies/governance/social_media_policy is written in plain English and provides clear guidance for social media users affiliated with the ACU. The policy is related to other policies and procedures, which are listed but not linked. This policy is a standard example and could be modified to suit an Academic Library.

The state of social media policies in higher education

This article is an in depth analysis of social media policies from all institutions listed in the Carnegie Classification Data File. It discusses the importance of developing social media policy either as a new policy or integrating social media policy into other existing policies. Suggestions included the need for policy decision makers to consider student and faculty rights as well as mitigating institution risk. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4445913/
