Wrist and Forearm Splints Causes and Recovery Period | Health | Article Point - 0 views

  •
Wrist and forearm splints may be suggested for people with weak wrists or for those that have been previously injured, for tendonitis wrist support and even as a preventative for those who awaken in the morning with pain or numbness after sleeping on their hands at night. The best orthopedic wrist braces for carpal tunnel syndrome, occupational stabilization and relief from the pain of wrist strains and sprains. This Right hand wrist and forearm splint from tynor is meant to be used among patients suffering from any injury or sprain in these regions. The splint is meant to provide controlled compression in various orthopaedic conditions. The splint immobilizes the area that helps in a speedier recovery. It has anatomical thumb opening that allows free movement of the thumb. It provides a lot of comfort and is easily breathable. Forearm splint is the term used to describe the forearm pain similarly the pain of lower leg over the shin is known as shin splints. Forearm splint describes the painful disease of elbow or wrist joint. Continuous pain in forearm is often caused by tendonitis, joint injury or hairline fracture of forearm bones (proximal radius or ulna near elbow joint). Overstretching of the elbow joint often causes forearm injury. Symptoms consist of a dull pain in the forearm. Pain is minor initially but increases as activity continues. Often pin-pointed to the dorsal or back of the hand side of the forearm, mid-way between the wrist and elbow. The patient may experience weakness in the wrist extensor muscles and tenderness deep in the forearm. Pain may be reproduced by attempting to bend the wrist backwards against resistance. They provided wrist splints are used in different medical institutions and hospitals for management of hand fractures. Our offered wrist splints are manufactured by skilled professionals using optimum quality basic material and advanced technology as per the set norms of market. Reverse Decision Declining Romosozumab Use For Osteoporosis - 0 views

  •
More than 100 NHS clinicians have urged the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) to change its decision - declining recommendation of romosozumab, the first new osteoporosis medication for over a decade. In a joint letter published on January 2, the clinicians warned of the consequences of barring access to the drug to those who suffer the bone-weakening disease. The joint letter, led by the Royal Osteoporosis Society (ROS), raised concern over the scarcity of the drug pipeline for osteoporosis and lack of public funding for new research. It quoted recent government research that showed the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) invested less than £1 million in osteoporosis research in 2020-21, against the £4.6 billion per year cost to the NHS of fractures. Craig Jones, chief executive of the Royal Osteoporosis Society said: "We're calling on NICE and the applicant company to get back round the table and work with us to ensure equal access to this important new treatment.

5 Things You Need To Understand If You are Having Chronic Pain! - 0 views

  •
Chronic pain is a type of pain that usually lasts for weeks to months. This pain can come and go, and it can be anywhere in the body. Chronic pain can lead to anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Chronic pain is quite different from acute pain and there are some differences between the two types. People usually experience severe pain, when it is injured by a broken bone or a cut on the skin. This pain does not last long. Pain is not something that can be ignored. If it grows, it should be fixed. As fear and pain persist, one begins to think negatively. Long-term negative thoughts begin to form in his mind, a process called fear conditioning. This factor causes an increase in blood pressure and anxiety disorders. Chronic pain is difficult to treat, and results in increased pain, fear, and negative thoughts. Extreme levels of fear lead to more pain, and the cycle of pain threats can be difficult to break. One of the best pills used to treat body pain symptoms is Hydrocodone 325mg, which you can easily buy from any trusted online pharmacy, such as Pharma Health Online.

Vitamin D status and ill health: a systematic review : The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology - 0 views

  •
Another ill conceived conclusion by the authors.  IF you are going to study something, know everything about it.  They authors make a major statement about vitamin D, yet they seem to understand a basic understanding of vitamin dosing.  The authors stated that dosing 2,000 IU of vitamin D in those with levels < 50 provided no benefit.  That is of course correct, because 2,000 IU daily won't hold any levels stable, let alone increase levels to 70-80 where they need to be.  The authors of this study are stuck in the traditional RDC thinking here. What is interesting is that low vitamin D was associated with CVD, MS, dyslipidemia, inflammation, glucose dysmetabolism, infections, mood disorders, decline in cognition, impaired physical functioning, and all-cause mortality,  But, vitamin D supplementation is only good for bones.  The authors of this study make a mockery of medicine.

Telomerase at the intersection of cancer and aging - 0 views

  • The anti-aging role of telomerase has been demonstrated to be largely mediated by its canonical role in elongating telomeres, which prevents the accumulation of critically short telomeres and loss of tissue homeostasis
  • Short telomeres, and subsequent DDR activation, could occur both in cancer and aging
  • increased abundance of short telomeres correlates with higher genomic instability and decreased longevity in various organisms, including mice, zebrafish, and yeast
  • ...15 more annotations...
  • mice deficient for telomerase or for telomere binding proteins are characterized by accelerated age-related defects
  • In humans, short telomeres are considered good indicators of an individual’s health status and correlate with both genetic and environmental factors
  • Although recent findings strongly support the idea that short telomeres drive several age-related diseases 38 we cannot exclude the possibility that in some situations short telomeres may be a consequence of the disease itself.
  • the current view is that telomerase deficiency may contribute to the early steps of cancer development by fueling chromosomal instability, while subsequent activation of telomerase may be necessary to allow tumor growth and tumor progression towards more malignant states
  • telomerase activation can be an early event in cancer, it is not necessary for cancer initiation
  • telomerase can stimulate tumor progression by ensuring maintenance of telomeres above a critically short length, thus preventing induction of cellular senescence or apoptosis
  • Almost all human cancers present activation of telomerase as a hallmark, most likely as a mechanism to allow unlimited cell proliferation of tumor cells
  • recent evidence demonstrated that short telomeres alone could lead to genomic instability and cancer
  • Getting rid of telomerase can also be problematic; the lack of telomerase could lead to increased chromosomal instability, which in turn could be at the basis for cancer initiation when tumor suppressor barriers are bypassed
  • telomerase activation is a potential therapeutic strategy for the treatment of age-related diseases
  • telomerase activation in adult or old mice by means of a gene therapy strategy was shown to be sufficient to improve metabolic fitness, neuromuscular capacity, and prevent bone loss, as well as significantly increase both median and maximum longevity, without increased cancer incidence
  • These studies suggest that telomerase expression could be considered a feasible approach to reverse tissue dysfunction and extend healthy lifespan without increasing cancer incidence
  • humans almost completely lose telomerase activity from somatic tissues in the adulthood
  • a change of paradigm seems to be occurring in telomerase biology, with a switch from viewing telomerase as fueling cancer to reversing aging
  • Telomerase expression in a background of high levels of tumor suppressors or in aged organisms seems to prevent its expected pro-cancer activity and yet it still functions as an anti-aging factor
  •
Telomerase activity and longer telomere length is shown to correlated inversely with many chronic diseases of aging.  In contrast, telomerase activity is found to be involved in carcinogenesis.  Increased carcinogenic potential of telomerase activity has not borne out in studies.  In addition, increased CD8 cell activity as a result of telomerase activation will actually decrease carcinogenic potential via NK activation.

Italso help benefit growth and development in children with disabilities, enabling them to keep active and retain their independence. Disabled children get huge physical and emotional benefits from having the specially tricycles, which are each custom made to suit the individual child's needs. Riding a tricycle provides both fun and fitness, and is a therapeutic activity that allows children to exercise their lower extremities. As the muscles move through cycling motions, they are flexed, extended and stretched. This range of motion is crucial for children with disabilities, because muscles are incapable of keeping up with bone growth unless fully extended. Tricycles are provided to severely disabled children and adults and come in two sizes, 20 inch and 24 inch models. These trikes are grant funded and to qualify for one of these, an individual must suffer from a condition such as, but not limited to, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injury or Autism. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of conditions caused by medical abnormalities in the development of a fetus or the early life of a child. These lead to damage or delayed development in the brain. The disorder is permanent and, though it does not worsen with age, the level of functionality of a person with cerebral palsy varies widely: in some cases, effects may be very minor, while in others, movement is impaired to the extent that a wheelchair is required. Common complications associated with CP vary by the type of CP disorder but can include vision problems, seizures, learning disabilities, and issues speaking, writing, and performing other tasks. Cerebral palsy causes problems with muscle tone, movement, balance and/or coordination. Symptoms and effects range from mild to severe. In some infants, problems are evident soon after birth. In others, diagnosis comes in later infancy or toddlerhood. Cerebral Palsy Wheelchair Description: The model designed for cerebral palsy child only. Ultra light weight aluminium alloy frame. • Testosterone is secreted into saliva. In saliva, testosterone is not bound to proteins. Thus concentration of testosterone in saliva is quite close to the serum free testosterone level. Currently serum free testosterone is measured by a convenient method in Japan, that reflects only 10% of the correct values. However, the correct measurement of serum free testosterone is quite costly. Collection of saliva is not invasive to subjects, and it can be done without paramedicals. Besides it is relatively cheaper. Acquisition of samples in multiple occasions is possible. These advantages of utilizing saliva will introduce the measurements of salivary testosterone in cohort studies or screening of low testosterone levels in the community.
