Facebook is now tracking votes in the American election through people's Facebook status updates. Very cool

Facebook is now automatically creating 'couple' pages for anyone who is linked to another person through relationship status. There is no opt out option and Facebook pulls in any pictures or check in's in which you have both been tagged. I'm not sure if I'm more bothered by the gross invasion of privacy or the fact that Facebook thinks we would be interested in seeing couples pages (uh no).

A great resource for anyone interested in non-profit communication strategy and non-profit communication technologies

Reading about this has given me a new respect for LinkedIn. It seems like it's the new Facebook (in terms of being a media darling). It also made me think about being a "prosumer" and how LinkedIn creates a win-win situation for both recruiters and users.

Instagram has been around for two years but it's really only taken off since the beginning of 2012. Since this is the first calendar year in which it's been a major social media player it is interesting to see the records it keeps breaking in terms of most popular day yet on Insta. In the past month both Hurricane Sandy and now Thanksgiving have broken the record. I can only imagine that X-mas next month will keep the records going - people love to Instagram food pictures.

Really interesting read about Instagram disabling its compatibility with Instagram - which officially has nothing to do with it being owned by Facebook. Especially interesting to read about the focus on financial gain. Social media is often hailed as bringing people together - but is it really just a flashy reinforcement of the structures that be?

It seems like Twitter's been busy upgrading its service to be more visual-oriented. is this a counter move to Facebook's purchase and integration of Instagram? Does it make sense in the Twitterverse to have the ability to add filters/effects to twitpics?

Interesting article about the first change to Instagram since Facebook's purchase. They also make interesting comments about how Facebook was more productive when it was a primarily mobile only site, invoking more raw emotion and allowing you to be "more real" on Insta than on other social media sites.

The theme of cyber bullying seems to be unfortunately making headlines in every newspaper, I thought it would be interesting to explore this article which explores the technologies behind virtual bullying and the real like consequences that come from it.
