Many of the ideas given in the article are very similar to the alternatives identified in chapter 16 of the Early text.

New Device Makes Wheelchairs Obsolete - 0 views

  •
I'm not sure that I agree with the title of this video, but the TEK Robotic Mobilization Device is a major improvement, in many ways, over a wheelchair. This segment gives 4 reasons why the TEK Robotic demonstrates a major shift in thinking in mobility devices. Best of all, this device shows how an individual with SCI can both sit and stand during the day, and place himself in much more natural positions for social interaction.

Sorry, did not realize Erikka had shared this already and not sure how to delete it from my name. But Erikka was the first to share, so the credit goes to her. Great article.

Equipment Designed for Occupational Therapy - 0 views

  •
I thought this article was very easy to read and informative at the same time. I liked the fact it was from the first Eleanor Clarke Slalge lecture. It tells about three different pieces of equipment: Tilt Table, Standing Table, and Bilateral Tilt Tables that encourage correct positions and body mechanics.

Ring Splint | Finger Splint | Finger Splints for Arthritis - 0 views

  •
Silver ring splints are taking over tape. When I first heard of these finger splints being used for hypermobility syndrome about 10 years ago, I thought this was genius! Now they are expanding the use as well as studying to see the positive/negative uses for them. We now have boutonniere splints, as well as swan neck splints.

This power point presentation was done from a pta perspective on bed mobility so there are some slight differences compared to how we learned but this is very cool to see being done again.

This video is from a marketing demonstration of a new type of wheelchair that can allow clients with a LE manual muscle grade of 0 to be able to self propel themselves from a standing position. While not a solve all, it certainly has some interesting implications.

First Double Hand Transplant - 0 views

  •
I'm sure some of us remember hearing the story on Zion Harvey this summer. This brave little boy underwent a bilateral hand transplant after losing both of his hands, and feet when we was younger. I remember hearing on the news that "he would have several hours of therapy a day" after the successful surgery. I found it encouraging that this article addressed that he had occupational therapy everyday. As future OTs/OTAs we know that occupational therapy will help him work towards his goal of playing on the monkey bars, and help him with his other ADLs. I hope we all have patients this positive in the future :)

Essential Job Functions Under the ADA - Disability Discrimination | Nolo.com - 0 views

  •
Essential job functions are the fundamental duties of a position: the things a person holding the job absolutely must be able to do. This helps to determine whether or not a person is being discriminated against when trying to get a job. If they can not perform the essential job functions, they are not qualified for the job.

OT who works in an oncology ward - 0 views

  •
The OT in the video allows the viewer to understand how it would be if they were in an oncology ward. I liked this video because I tend to only have sad thoughts on this particular subject, however, I like how positive the OT is in this video because that is the type of mind set an OTA would need if they were working with a client under these circumstances. Also, the video goes over what an OTA would be focusing on for treatment.

Blood Pressure - 4 views

this was a good instructional video for taking a clients blood pressure. I found it interesting that the stethoscope actually has an off position that you need to be aware of, I did not realize that.
  •
This is a really good video on how to take blood pressure. If you need to brush up on it, I would advice viewing this. It is a good one to reference back to if you don't take blood pressure often and need a review.
