The production company behind "Keeping up with the Kardashians" and other reality television staples will debut a new documentary series following young adults with Down syndrome. The six-episode series "Born This Way" will air on A&E Network starting Dec. 8 at 10 p.m. ET.----- I am anxious to see this show! I hope they portray it in a way that isn't dramatic and fake like all the other reality tv shows. I feel this show has to opportunity to show people more into the life of someone who lives with a disability! I know I'll be watching...anyone else?

This Nursing Home's Retro Rooms Help Dementia Patients Remember the Past-- This is a neat article! It makes me happy to see that some nursing homes go above and beyond for the sake of their patients! If end up in LTC I would love to be at one like this!

I wanted to share this activity I came across. I was actually looking for something like this for an activity for one of our projects last semester but never found one I liked well enough so I just made it up. This is a lot like what I made for the activity, I wanted to make an activity pertaining to putting because my grandfather loved to play golf and is now unable and I thought that would be something neat he would enjoy and relate to in treatment. I wanted to share because I feel like this will be a good activity to have if you are working with someone like my grandfather who played golf everyday of his life for over 30 years. :)

This article from the today shows website talks about the CP foundations campaign of "just say hi". It addresses the fact that people with disability do not require any other treatment than people who do not. The first step .. just say hi, I feel like this is such a huge topic and I am very interested in backing this campaign. I hope you all find it as interesting as me!

This is such a good story, not at all what I expected when I started to read. I feel like this relates to us, and is an issue our clients will face and I don't want to give away the ending. It is not long at all but it is about a lady who parks in a handicap spot and comes out to find a note on her car...

This article discusses how cell phone OVER usage lead to pain and soreness in our hand,wrist, and fingers. I know personally my right thumb hurts all the time and if I am on my phone a lot throughout the day it starts to have a small shake, I know the reason is from my phone. This article also has a video with some good information as well!

I heard this on the radio today and had to share after I investigated ...this should bring up a video... with all the talk about the movie Back to the Future officially being in the past after tomorrow, nike plans to unveil self-tying shoe laces like the ones Marty had in the movie! The first thought in my head was how many people that could actually benefit from this if it works. I just kept picturing the COTA I was with during level 1 FW putting the elastic laces in several patients shoes. I hope this becomes a reality for people who need it, not lazy people who just want cool shoes that CAN and are ABLE to tie their shoes!

I'm sure most of us animal lovers in the program have seen this picture and heard the story, it is a couple of years old. But in my research with aquatic therapy for our papers it made me think about it and I wanted to post it on here for those who haven't seen/read about it. It is about a man who helps his very arthritic dog by taking him into Lake Superior when the water is at a warm temp.

This is an article that discusses aging in place. It goes into specific detail about what OTs do and their involvement with aging in place. It also talk about CAPs (Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist) and the role they take on with aging in place. I found it to be pretty interesting on this subject.

This is an article on the stand up desk Teri mentioned in class the other day. My fiancés place of work is giving the employees the option of having one of these as well and he opted to try it out. He says he can tell a difference in back pain when he stands vs. sitting, I assume it is because he is using better posture while standing. Since it was mentioned in class and he is using it I wanted to see if I could find other benefits to using a stand up desk while at work. I found this article explaining more benefits of using the stand up desk and I found it to be a very interesting read, and wishing I would have had this option at my desk job before I started school.
