Holy Cross theatre students and Worcester area community members dressed in costume and makeup to enact characters from the treasures in the Worcester Art Museum's permanent collection on Oct. 22. Called "Tableaux Vivants" - or, art coming to life - 16 different works from the museum's collection were interpreted by actors, who spoke and mingled with museum visitors.

Lately, I'm not sure if couture imitates Lady Gaga or is inspired by the late Alexander McQueen? From the looks of the pastel heart shaped hairdos at Chanel to the lampshade lace ensembles at Givenchy, the new lines of fashion seemed to be heavily inspired by the iconic fashion designer and his daring sense of style.

Along with Andy Warhol, they're pretty much the the most well known artists in this movement, and his custom use of Benday dots and comic book style art are quite famous.Mike Ruiz's editorial Masterpiece for Zink Magazine makes use of Lichenstein's techniques and staple imagery (tears, telephones, speech bubbles) to create a dotted technicolor vision.

I love Joan Mitchell's expressionist paintings. Mitchell was one of the few female painters to break into the male dominated abstract art world during the 1950s. She was greatly inspired by landscapes which is evident in her use of color. When I was browsing the Spring 2010 collections, a lot of the prints and colors reminded me of Mitchell's work.

For 16 days straight, from dawn to dusk, five highly determined Montreal-based artists (who make up the artist run collective A'shop) worked on a graffiti mural of a Mother Nature-esque Madonna or a modern-day version of "Our Lady of Grace." Inspired by Czech Art Nouveau painter Alphonse Mucha, the crew created this breathtakingly beautiful five story mural using 500 cans of spray paint in over 50 different colors.
