Fashion Inspired by Art or Art Inspiring Fashion? | - 0 views

  •
Lately, I'm not sure if couture imitates Lady Gaga or is inspired by the late Alexander McQueen? From the looks of the pastel heart shaped hairdos at Chanel to the lampshade lace ensembles at Givenchy, the new lines of fashion seemed to be heavily inspired by the iconic fashion designer and his daring sense of style.

  •
Montreal-based artist Kevin Ledo uses images of world famous fashion icons such as Dior, Calvin Klein, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Prada and Louis Vuitton to draw parallels between modern fashion and Christian art from European medieval times. Coolhunting notes Ledo does this by, "transposing methods of religious paintings into an advertising context".

The history of hats in art - Fashion interpretation by Joel Peter WITKIN - 0 views

  •
Despite his usual dark streak (as evidenced in my previous post), Joel Peter Witkin lapsed into the world of high fashion and more traditional art (or maybe he's just becoming more of a softy with age :) in this 2006 fashion series for the NY Times.

Oscar Wilde once said "One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art." Being a living work of art could prove itself to be quite complicated, so maybe another way of looking at this statement is by using art to fashion oneself. - Keith HARING by Nicholas KIRKWOOD - Man RAY and Keith HARING by Jean-Charles DE CALTELJABAC - Robert CAMPIN and Hieronymus BOSCH by Alexander MC QUEEN - HIROSHIGE by Christian DIOR - Salvador DALI by Elsa SCHIAPARELLI - Andy WARHOL by Pepe Jeans

  •
That the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art will open its exhibit "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" next week is a reminder that, at its most masterful, fashion is art. At that level-and perhaps at levels less skilled but no less inspired-it's also often influenced by art.

Morfium is a noteworthy fashion label expressing its creative concept of progressive design through numerous visual arts and media like photography, theatre, movies and music sources. Morfium as the name of the brand also has a rich explanation starting from the mythological Morpheas, the messenger appearing in the dreams as well as a variety of inspirations taken from Balkan traditions.

Art Inspiring Fashion in Spring-Summer collections 2010 - Joan MITCHELL - 0 views

  •
I love Joan Mitchell's expressionist paintings. Mitchell was one of the few female painters to break into the male dominated abstract art world during the 1950s. She was greatly inspired by landscapes which is evident in her use of color. When I was browsing the Spring 2010 collections, a lot of the prints and colors reminded me of Mitchell's work.

Tying all sorts of loose ends dangling here and there, all those random pics and editorial bits I found in my meanderings that I can tell are inspired by art. Mostly like all those other art to life posts but in a messier more diverse format! Enjoy!
