PMI CAPM Certification | Project Management Institute - 0 views

  •
As students of project management, we learn how PMI's Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) is the ultimate PM industry certification to obtain (with which I agree). The PMP is a great goal to reach for, however, most students of project management are nowhere close to meeting the eligibility requirements necessary to pursue the PMP. You may or may not know that PMI has another option for entry-level project management professionals called the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM). The CAPM is appealing because it serves as a much more attainable stepping stone in our quest for the coveted PMP. - Duncan McBogg

It seems to me like this site is the gold standard for all PM resources and we should all become familiar with what they offer.

OpenProj - Project Management - 0 views

  •
Open Source desktop project management software. This is an awesome tool for those of us without access to the likes of MS Project.
  •
Open Source desktop project management and can be used as an alternative to Microsoft Project. PM's can create GANT charts, and also many other templates.

It looks great, but I'm always suspicious about what type of Trojan I might download with these programs. Has anyone used it successfully?

Great article and how very true that traditional is going to have to be overhauled.
  •
I found the five trends really interesting as they fly in the face of what we've been doing in this class. I think that everything we learned has value but with such drastic changes and approaches taking place it makes you wonder if the focus we've been on is in the wrong areas?? Anyway, I also came across this for Top 10 Trends in PM for 2013 which is similar in some ways: http://www.itbusinessedge.com/slideshows/top-10-trends-in-project-management-for-2013.html

Project management software, online collaboration: Basecamp - 1 views

  •
Trusted by millions, Basecamp is the leading web-based project management and collaboration tool. To-dos, files, messages, schedules, and milestones.

I had looked at this too. It seems that most PM software ends up having to be paid for. I guess making it free ties to the idea if taking money off the table and using a collaborative organizational model :)

The Project Manager vs. the Business Analyst - 0 views

  •
I have a hard time deciding whether "versus" is a good word to compare the two roles. On one hand, the project manager and business analyst should be working collaboratively. On the other hand, the two roles do offer a healthy contest in project related decisions.

Project Management Methodologies - 0 views

  •
Introduction: In order to achieve goals and planned results within a defined schedule and a budget, a manager uses a project. Regardless of which field or which trade, there are assortments of methodologies to help managers at every stage of a project from the initiation to implementation to the closure.
  •
Thanks for posting - it is nice to see a list like this of many of the competing methodologies out there. My interviewee told me that the most important thing prospective PMs can do is learn as many methods as possible as well as possible, because in reality, you need to mix and match them depending on what your project requires, and the more you know, the more you can adapt.
