Using Todoist for Task Management - 1 views

  •
A review of one of the latest PM tools available, Todoist. Recommended by the author as an effective tool for managing tasks and projects. May not necessarily be great for teams though, it seems to be more of a personal task manager.

I think people in all career areas could learn something from these general stress busters...it's just a matter of seeing through to help yourself when you're in the midst of crisis!
  •
Good article on what can cause stress, the biological and mental aspect of stress and some quick tips you can use anywhere. So many of us rely on caffeine drinks to keep up going it is scary what the long term effects can be. A good smoothie can probably do better and is better for you. Dabbled around the site a bit and found out these guys are from Canada, my home country!

Right. Stress. I think this is one I should post hard-copy to the wall, ha. I might consider cutting back on caffeine and taking a deep breath more often. Thanks for a smart addition to the PM list :)
  •
Jaime- I am on day 2 of no caffeine and I already feel SO much calmer. I'm craving it really badly, but I was so jittery lately and I know it was stressing me out more. A good reminder on keeping stress under control. Thanks Allan!

I like the recommendations for stress reduction. A few people at my work actually requested that the company create a quiet relaxation room. Not sure if they'll do it, but I hope so. I got into breathing meditation years ago and it pretty much cured me of anxiety attacks that had persisted from my late 20's to early 30's. A couple years of daily practice and they haven't returned for almost 10 years. I don't keep up with the meditation anymore, but I'd say any amount of practice can affect long-term benefits.

A very flexible Project Management system. Podio allows you to add your projects and include individual deliverables, tasks, deadlines, Project Manager's, and comment on projects as they are completed. It also allows you to chat with other team members and provide access to clients so they can always see the progress of the project. Google Docs and other collaborative services can also be connected.

PM cartoons - 2 views

  •
This is a website dedicated to Project Management comics. These are good for a few laughs but they also put some of what we've been reading about into story-boarded scenarios. I think those without any project management experience will find it helpful in adding some context to our readings.

This is great information for someone unfamiliar with project management. The key characteristics go beyond common sense ideals. I especially appreciate the suggestion to "cultivate and rely on extensive informal networks inside and outside the firm to solve problems that arise" - that is a great proactive problem solving strategy. Thanks for sharing this info :)
  •
This is a great list! I like how it lists not using information as a weapon. It's amazing to see managers ignore this rule. It comes with the territory of holding back one's emotions or personal preference. Letting go is a quality that is hard to find in management.
