    The purpose of this project is to improve the transition planning system for youth diagnosed with serious emotional disturbances (SED) transitioning from the children's mental health system to the adult mental health system. Young people with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED) need a careful planning process to ensure they can set and successfully achieve their personal goals for independence. Currently there is no established transition planning process for youth with SED in Montana.  When:

Starting in 2014, these same plans won't be allowed to deny or exclude anyone or charge more for a pre-existing condition including a disability.Parents have new options to cover their children. If your children are under age 26, you can generally insure them if your policy allows for dependent coverage. The only exception is if you have an existing job-based plan, and your children can get their own job-based coverage.An Affordable Insurance Exchange is a new marketplace where individuals and small businesses can buy affordable health benefit plans. Exchanges will offer you a choice of plans that meet certain benefits and cost standards. Starting in 2014, members of Congress will be getting their health care insurance through Exchanges, and you will be able buy your insurance through Exchanges, too.Pregnancy and newborn care, along with vision and dental coverage for children, will be covered in all Exchange plans and new plans sold to individuals and small businesses, starting in 2014.In 2014, if your income is less than the equivalent of about $88,000 for a family of four today, and your job doesn’t offer affordable coverage, you may get tax credits to help pay for insurance.

    What:
    The Montana Regional Education Service Area III (MRESA3) is offering an opportunity for professional development on the new revisions for Gifted and Talented in Montana. This workshop is designed to assist schools and districts to have the necessary components for their Gifted and Talented Program Plan to submit to OPI. The focus of this workshop is to equip the participant with strategies necessary to construct a gifted program that fits their district and population of students. Participants will be presented with the OPI framework for Gifted Education Programs and a Gifted Program Planning Template. Emphasis will be placed on identification of gifted and twice exceptional children as well as characteristics of sound curriculum for gifted students. Several teaching strategies that enable the teacher to differentiate the core curriculum to meet the needs of not only the gifted student but all students in the classroom will be presented. Participants will come away with the ability to complete a comprehensive plan for their district and/or develop a differentiated curriculum unit or lesson.

Federal Autism Research Plan Unveiled, Vaccines Still An Issue - Disability Scoop - 0 views

  • A newly updated strategic plan guiding federally-funded autism research places new emphasis on adults with the disorder, while leaving the door open for further research on vaccines. The 2010 strategic plan released this week by the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee, or IACC, provides a blueprint for the type of autism research that will likely be approved for federal funding during the course of the year. The IACC is an advisory committee established by the Combating Autism Act of 2006, which is comprised of government officials and members of the autism community.
