What:
The ADA National Network Audio Conference is being offered in collaboration with the Inclusive Fitness Coalition in response to the recent guidance provided by the Office for Civil Rights clarifying public elementary and secondary schools obligations under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to provide extracurricular athletic opportunities for students with disabilities. This session will discuss key points that are addressed in this new resource. The session will provide attendees with practical advice on how schools can better integrate students with disabilities into mainstream athletic programs and as well as how to create adapted programs. The goal of this session is to raise awareness of the obligation to provide opportunities in athletics and to encourage change at the school level.

WebEase (Web Epilepsy, Awareness, Support and Education) is the first interactive, on-line self-management program for people with epilepsy shown to be effective in improving self-management skills. WebEase was developed by a team of researchers from Emory University with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and is now available to the general public through the Epilepsy Foundation at www.webease.org. The purpose of this presentation is to provide interested epilepsy health care and social services providers with a brief overview of WebEase. In addition to exploring the benefits of WebEase for people living with epilepsy, the Webinar will review the structure and components of the program, its theoretical principles and its evidence base. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a professional advocate? What kind of training is needed? How do I attract clients? What do I do after I'm hired? What about billing? And how do I avoid burn-out? This session provides a starting point to answer these questions. Many parents, therapists, retired school district staff, and others routinely ask me how to become a professional advocate. Of course, there is no One Right Way to do this, no certification, no road map. . . and so the goal is to help participants consider the next steps, to provide them with some information about what has worked for some professional advocates, and to connect them with resources. This presentation will cover the following issues, among others: role of the advocate, sources/types of training, work environments, attracting clients, advocate's intake and next steps, maintaining records and confidentiality, billing, pro bono work, the importance of boundaries, and networking resources. The presentation will also reference COPAA's Voluntary Code of Ethics for advocates.

The need for this training arose from the 2006 adoption of Montana New Rule 1: Assignment of persons providing instruction of Braille to students in the state of Montana. Topics for this year's workshop will include: a presentation hands-on workshop with Jan Zollinger - Teaching Braille Literacy Through the Arts, braille practice and techniques will be explored. The Family Voices National Center for Family and Professional Partnerships is hosting this webinar presented by Suzanne M. Bronheim, PhD of Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development. Suzanne will share findings from a 2010 research partnership with three Family-to-Family Health Information Centers (F2F HICs) to better understand how Hispanic/Latino families' and African American families' utilization of F2F HICs might be increased. This research project is based on a social marketing theory that suggests that people try new things if that "innovation" fits with their values and experience, seems to have an advantage over other approaches, is easy to use, can be tried and dropped if they don't like it and if others they know and trust are also aware of it and have used it. The project has used this framework to study how Hispanic/Latino and African American families prefer to receive information and how they view the F2F HICs as a resource. In addition, this project has studied similar issues for the social networks of families to learn how they view and access F2F HICs. Suzanne will be joined by staff of the F2F HICs that partnered in this project to share lessons learned and suggestions of how other F2F HICs can use this framework.

Technology Act States and ADA Regional Centers have valuable free services to assist employers and employees with job accommodations. Each individual employee accommodation solution requires research and time. Presenters Andy Winnegar with the Southwest ADA Center, David Altman and Desirae Vallier with the Assistive Technology Partnership in Nebraska will discuss how Assistive Technology (AT) demonstrations, equipment loans, ADA support and technical assistance from the ADA Network may enhance the interactive accommodation process. This session will describe the prefrontal cortex's role in attention, behavior and emotion and how abnormal development in this area of the brain contributes to ADHD, ODD and bipolar disorder. Dr. Arnsten will also underscore the role of stress in causing prefrontal cortical dysfunction and emerging treatments.

Goals and Objectives:
1) The role of the prefrontal cortex in the top-down regulation of attention, behavior and emotion.
2) How abnormal development and dysfunction of the prefrontal cortex contributes to childhood disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder and bipolar disorder.
3) How prefrontal cortical circuits are modulated by the arousal systems, and how stress  exposure or lead poisoning can cause prefrontal cortical dysfunction that mimics ADHD.
4) New data on how medications used to treat ADHD can strengthen prefrontal cortical regulation through catecholamine actions on prefrontal network connections. The purpose of this webinar series is to introduce clinicians to exciting developments in neuroscience that provides complex and new understanding of developmental and behavioral disorders in children. Participants will gain a greater understanding of the structure and functioning of areas of the brain, novel ways to study the brain and emerging treatments. When:

It will be an opportunity for students, parents, teachers, vocational rehabilitaion counselors, case managers and others to network, explore resources, and discover pathways to meaningful futures! During the conference, there will be a Real LIfe Fair with vendors representing education, idependent living, recreation, employment, and other supportive services. Presenters will include well known keynotes as well as Montanans who have themselves gone through the transition process and can offer insight, guidance and support. In 2010, the Board's Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) for Section 508 proposed to incorporate the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (also known as WCAG 2.0) for evaluating the accessibility of electronic documents. WCAG 2.0 is published and maintained by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and is the internationally recognized standards for web accessibility. This session will provide examples of how the WCAG success criteria can be used to catch accessibility barriers in office documents, and also how the word processor has the capacity to include accessibility features in documents.
