Record & Share your PowerPoint presentations | Present.me - 7 views

  •
This is a great tool for teachers. It allows you to record your presentation slides and present it as well. As the website suggests, the effectiveness of presentations falls by 55% when the audiences do not see the face of the presenter. This is good for presenting information that you would like the students to re-visit. It is an excellent tool for those school thinking about flip classes, where the lecture component of the class can be completed at home so the practical component, the experiments, the collaborative workshopping of concepts can be done in class.

  •
Bad creditors are welcome to accomplish the quick approval of Same Day Loans. Here, lenders do not get biased among the borrowed on the basis of their credit scores at all. This is because; the decision of the loan approval is taken solely on the basis of the applicant's repayment ability.

The Risk in Using Twitter as a Public Utility - 0 views

  • The takeaway here for me is that as fantastic as web services are, many of Them are controlled by one party and are thus a single point of failure. If They go down or The particular site makes a change to The web service call, it can potentially ripple through The Internet economy if The API is popular.

I've been thinking about this single-point of failure issue for a little while now. The great thing about web2.0 for learning is that The tools fit togeTher. But if a tool breaks The elements built into that narrative immediately lose cohesion. eg. when Edublogs change it's "embed The web" system OR when Twitter changes it SMS provision to be America centric. What happens if teachers/students go to depend on The single entities for connectivist learning - Their failure has some serious kickbacks. The recent ability through Ping.fm and Diigo to cross polinate services is a step in The right direction but take this sticky - it could be lost in The sands of API change. In time users with demand cross-pollination and archive features.

The false dichotomy of The want to vs The have - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
We struggle to achieve balance with so many parts of our lives. We see things in dichotomies and try to weigh one against the other believing that we must give time to one and not the other. This tendency to see things in often false dichotomies leads to the problem of the "want to' vs the 'have to'. Unfortunately, when we are faced with this dilemma we often make a choice in favour of the 'have to' but we chose this option for the wrong reasons.

Encouraging Persistence - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. the slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race." ― Calvin Coolidge Growing up, I had a copy of this quote on my wall. It is one of those things that stuck with me over the years. For a long time I might not have truly appreciated its wisdom. Now as a teacher in times of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity, its significance seems to have grown. When we can instantaneous consumers of the all of the worlds information, as we access anything and everything at the speed of light, how do we learn the value of persistence?

From Dept of Ed & Child Development, SA. "We have thought deeply about what we value for our students' learning, how this is represented in the learning areas through the essence, and how this essence helps us work with all the components of the learning area. In this section we work with our colleagues using the BitL tool to ensure our pedagogy brings the essence of the learning areas to life in the classroom. It helps us engage our learners as scientists, as mathematicians, as historians, and as great communicators - so that they not only know about the important understandings and develop the skills within each learning area, but can bring this understanding to bear in their everyday contexts in powerful ways."

Trying to dig deep with a flipped classroom | Innovative pedagogy - Dean Pearman - 0 views

  •
"The flipped classroom allows The class to dig a little deeper into active learning. It's a big misconception that The flipped classroom is about making videos and placing Them online, sure that's one part of it. It's an important part of The puzzle as its forces you to focus on The explicit content you would like students to know. Making a 5 - 8 minute lesson isn't easy, but it certainly makes you consider what your learning objectives are . The real power of The flipped classroom is what happens The next day in class. The flipped classroom opens up opportunities. My main goal is to go deeper and have students participate in a richer active learning experience where I become more of a coach to guide Their learning. The classes become much more collaborative in nature where students are solving complex problems with an emphasis on higher order and critical thinking skills."

Start spreading the News to leave some PD time open during the K12 online conference October 20-24 and 27-31! If you want to download the flyer you can get it in PDF format. http://k12onlineconference.org/ Julie and I met 3 years a go at the K12 online conference and shortly thereafter the first Flat Classroom Project was born. Little did we know we'd be keynoting a strand so soon. But the best thing about the K12 online conference is you -- us. All of "us" -- the loosely defined, ever changing edublogosphere full of plurkers, lurkers, and prolific conversationalists. So, you've been hanging around the fringes wondering if all of this "stuff" is for you and your classroom. I challenge you -- read / listen to ONE session -- participate in ONE conversation. Just dip you toe in and see what you think! Share what you're doing! Learn from others! This is not about any ONE person telling US how to do things the best way. This is about US telling US how to do things. Free. By teachers and educators for teachers and educators. What is there to lose?

Slowness, Wisdom and Change - Practical Theory - 2 views

  • Slowness, Wisdom and Change
  •
Better we make the wise decision than the expedient one. Read the older educators... Read Ted Sizer and Deborah Meier and Herb Kohl... and feel the wisdom in their words. they write without hubris, but instead with an acknowledgment of their own flawed humanity. they write with an understand that they cannot be all things to all children, but with the knowledge that they must come as close as they can. I am far from religious, but I am reminded a lot these days of the serenity prayer: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

Half an Hour: Collaboration and Cooperation - 0 views

  •
I believe that you can draw a connection between the two distinctions. Collaboration belongs to groups, while cooperation is typical of a network. the significant difference is that, in the former, the individual is subsumed under the whole, and becomes a part of the whole, which is created by conjoining a collection of largely identical members, while in the latter, the individual retains his or her individuality, while the whole is an emergent property of the collection of individuals.

Putting heads together - 1 views

  • Groups whose members had higher levels of “social sensitivity” — the willingness of the group to let all its members take turns and apply their skills to a given challenge — were more collectively intelligent. “Social sensitivity has to do with how well group members perceive each other’s emotions,”
  • What our results indicate is that people with social skills are good for a group — whether they are male or female.
  • We also think it’s possible to improve the intelligence of a group, by either changing the members of a group, or teaching them better ways of interacting
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • the key point is great, that features of the group can be more important than features of the individuals that make up the group, for determining outcomes
  • clarifying the conditions under which the proportion of women makes a difference would be interesting
  •
"A new study co-authored by MIT researchers documents the existence of collective intelligence among groups of people who cooperate well, showing that such intelligence extends beyond the cognitive abilities of the groups' individual members, and that the tendency to cooperate effectively is linked to the number of women in a group."
  •
Some interesting implications here for teams at schools including their composition and providing training to develop social skills.
