Gary Green's map of fiction in Surrey. A great example of how to use Google Maps. The tool also allows him to write about each title that he's put into the map.

Your Library - Edinburgh City Council has a a great example of a library breaking out and getting into the wider community. This is a map that details literature based within the city. There are more than 100 books on the map which covers the whole city, from Edinburgh Airport to Portobello Police Station, and Muirhouse to James Gillespie's High School

Mapped historical photos, film, and audio | SepiaTown - 3 views

"SepiaTown lets you view and share thousands of mapped historical images from around the globe." In most cases you can then compare the historical image with current images. At the moment there don't appear to be any Australian images posted so there is a great opportunity for Australian schools to become involved.

My thought for this site is that you could use it to generate an interdisciplinary writing task with students. They select a starting location then find its opposite; the writing task is that they narrate the journey from the starting point to its opposite. They could research the different places they pass through and choose their own line of travel (making it either more realistic or fanciful). Integrated activities might include geography (different environments); mathematics (distance and measurement); science/physics (distance & displacement).
