Making better business decisions requires retailers to break down silos between company divisions, and deliver scalable predictive tools that allow managers enterprise-wide to sift through mission-critical information.  Chain Store Age talked with Andrea Morgan-Vandome, VP retail strategy and solution marketing, Oracle Retail, about how retailers can use new BI tools to make it happen.

The multi-year, three-step project, which started 18 months ago, includes a move to a private cloud, better backend integration between online and brick and mortar stores to support in-store merchandise pickup, and larger in-store networking pipes that could, ultimately, be used to help guide shoppers to in-store deals.

The February 3 edition of Campus Technology includes the following article highlighting that Vanderbilt University selected Oracle's PeopleSoft Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solution to overhaul its admissions systems.  The articles notes that Vanderbilt University will use the new system to analyze admissions data and assess institutional programs.  The article includes comment by Douglas Christiansen, vice provost for enrollment and dean of admissions, Vanderbilt University, who notes that by consolidating their previous systems with Oracle's PeopleSoft CRM, and integrating it with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Warehouse and PeopleSoft Performance Management Warehouse, the university can improve reporting and transfer student records and data between departments more efficiently.

For retailers looking to succeed in today's challenging economy, a joined-up strategy between their online and store presence is the key to success, according to speakers at this year's World Retail Congress. Consumers not only use smartphones and the internet to shop but to carry out research too, while retailers can boost their instore offers by incorporating key elements from the online experience. Petah Marian reports.

Highlighting that Inteli is working with Oracle to deliver the installation of 1,300 slow charging stations and 50 fast charging stations in Portugal, to support the government's MOBI-E vehicle electrification project. The article notes that the MOBI-E platform will include the implementation of Oracle Utilities Customer Care and Billing. This will deliver base rating and billing functionalities, enabling monthly flat rate and time-of-day rating of electricity consumption, network usage and/or additional service charging such as parking, roaming between Electric Vehicle (EV) operators and Energy Retailers, as well as the settlement and clearing of all transactions among the service providers.

Highlighting that a network of public charging stations for electric vehicles has been installed across Portugal by Oracle and Portuguese not-for-profit company Inteli. The article notes that the Portuguese project, known as MOBI.E, incorporates Oracle's Customer Care and Billing service, enabling monthly flat rate and time-of-day rating of electricity consumption, network usage and/or additional charging such as parking, roaming between electric vehicle (EV) operators and energy retailers. The article also includes comments from Bastian Fischer, vice president, Oracle Utilities, EMEA noted that with an estimated 800 million motor vehicles on the road worldwide, e-mobility solutions are crucial to meet the European Union's target to reduce carbon emissions by 20 percent by 2020.
