  • creation of student avatars
  • The avatar activity encouraged studentstudent interactions by drawing upon personal experiences and interests and specifically dedicating small amounts of time to peer socializing.
  • By creating opportunities for students to create social-relational constructs in online learning environments, personal risks are minimized because students choose which experiences they wish to share and look for common interests upon which to base their sense of belonging.

How One Teacher Let Go of Control To Focus On Student-Centered Approaches - 1 views

  •
When Kristine Riley looks back on how she used to teach her students, she sees order and control. Her third, fourth and fifth grade gifted-and-talented classes had been structured and orderly, and students sat in designated seats. She had assigned the same tasks to every student and had hoped for roughly the same answers from all of them.

Soundtrap - Make music online - 0 views

  •
This is a cloud based music software that I use in my music classroom. Students can create their own music and share it with others. There is a collaboration feature that allows students and teachers to work together on a song. One of my favorite tools is the podcasting feature. My students instead of written summative tests create a series of podcast episodes where they speak about what they have learned, and they can collaborate together and even have guests on their episodes. This podcasting feature is great for students who struggle with writing and are better with speaking.

How Meaningful Feedback for Teachers and Students Improves Relationships - 1 views

  •
The 2014 National Teacher of the Year, Sean McComb, works at a pretty average-looking high school. Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts isn't a school with extra funding or special dispensation to try something totally different. Students sit at desks, they rotate through periods and, in many ways, the school hasn't revolutionized what it looks like to attend school.

Social Media for Teachers: Guides, Resources, and Ideas - 1 views

Although students are evermore connected to the social web, many of these networks remain out-of-class digital playgrounds where students congregate. The College Catalog as a Contract. - 0 views

  •
This article Examines whether the college catalog and language therein constitute a legally binding contract between college and student. Categorizes catalog litigation by cases involving dismissal, granting of degrees, tuition, admission, and course offerings. The courts appear to agree that the student-college relationship is contractual in nature and that the relevant contractual terms are set forth in the catalogs. (202 references) (MLH) This is extremely timely given that all MET students must realign to the new AECT standards (and were told 5 days into the start of the semester!)
