How Old School Publishers Can Win In The Digital Age - 1 views

  •
"Like many millennials today, Yale classmates Henry Luce and Briton Hadden left their jobs to create a startup. They found newspapers dry, longwinded and boring and thought they could do better by presenting stories in a faster paced, more personality centered format. In 1923 they launched Time magazine and it became a runaway success."
  •
"The greatest challenge for publishers today is to create new business models. Unfortunately, most haven't even begun the process due to misplaced nostalgia for distribution revenue. In that sense, paywalls represent the greatest threat to old-line publishers."

And also due to the inherent feature of every human being of being resistant to changes. And all of that without taking into account some economical interests.

Digital Literacy Is the Key to the Future, But We Still Don't Know What It Means | WIRED - 5 views

"The entrance to GitHub is the most Instagram-able lobby in tech. It's a recreation of the Oval Office , and the mimicry is spot-on---except for the rug. Instead of the arrow-clutching American eagle that graces Obama's office rug, it shows the code-sharing site's Octocat mascot gazing into the digital future, just above the motto: "In Collaboration We Trust."

This is tough for me to see, because I really do strongly dislike click-bait to point of having written articles about it, but my desire to see a censorshipless internet is stronger. Reading this article really toyed with my head.

4 Ways To Retrain Your Brain To Handle Information Overload | Fast Company | Business +... - 5 views

  •
"We live in an age of information overload. While many of us find ourselves inundated with vast amounts of data daily, our fast-paced society also requires us to make more rapid decisions." A very short blog post that reminds us to slow down and focus. It doesn't add much new to the conversation but the reminders are helpful, especially the one about multitasking. It truly is a myth.

Excellent article. I also really enjoyed the part about multi-tasking! Very interesting and informative! "What we're actually doing is rapidly shifting our attention from one thing to another," he says. This fast-paced attention seesaw depletes the brain's glucose supply. Glucose is the fuel that the brain's neurons need to communicate with one another. Using up the brain's glucose supply by task switching means the brain will reach a level of fatigue much sooner in the day than if we concentrate on one item at a time with sustained attention."
