Exploring Digital Identity: Beyond the Private Public Paradox. A great article that explores how new media is transforming culture and how we identify ourselves online. The article uses a metaphor called digiSelves to describe how we are also creating a new identity too.

Indeed, maintaining the distance between the private self and public persona may be more difficult as we enter the virtual global village. As we continue to use the media, the proposition that we may become invested in the public persona possibly at odds with our private self seems to be a reasonable assertion. School shootings tend to support this.

People have a digital identity to surf on the Internet and get access to different kinds of information. Yes, there are a lot of good resources online for people to know and to learn. However, during the process, people's privacy also takes the risk of being viewed by others. On the other hand, everyone also has a chance to see others' privacy. So, is it good or bad to have such a digital identity. I think it is good and people acquire much more benefits than the risk they take.

Are you a new linux user? (and why not give a linux a try! There are many great, stable, simple to use distributions out there now! And you can try many of them out with out even installing via live cd) The GUI is great, but to "unlock the POWER" it is great to learn about a few more advanced commands. I don't bother memorizing the command, but you will be amazed at the things you can easily figure out how to do with Linux, making your computing life easier and more powerful... The website is very helpful, and the book version is free and CC.

I LOVE linux. I have let my brain turn to iOS mush in recent years, but since it's open source, I was able to google --er search via duck duck go-- fixes for a wifi connection issue and that shellshock thingie. And in far less time than it ever took to fix a Microsoft or WIndows issue. There are guys you can find online who will ship you a machine pre-loaded with Linux or Ubuntu or Debian, if you can't or don't want to bother with wiping and doing it yourself. If an easily distracted and slightly airheaded person like me can handle it, imagine how a more 'normal' person can do! Great post. Thanks for sharing. In fact, all your shares are interesting.

Descubre, Fundación Andaluza para la divulgación de la Innovación y el Conocimiento I would like to introduce the Spanish Fundación Descubre (http://fundaciondescubre.es/) and, inside it, the network called "Divulga red" (http://divulgared.es/), thought to connect people (professional and amateur researchers and citizens in general), communicate and collaborate among them. DivulgaRed let people reveal research topics and the value of the science in different fields, sharing ideas with other researchers and group of people, all with the basis of a collaborative work. I had the pleasure of giving two talks in high-schools telling about optical communications and novelties that people can have in a near future. In a very good atmosphere, students and their own teachers asked me questions and I can enjoy a very nice atmosphere making my knowledge in this topic public. Even more, teachers in the high school were later discussing with me about possibilities in Education, and both they and me built some experiments to be made by students in the high school during the semester. Executive education courses are most schools' main sources of income. They are often customized and sold to private corporations, covering business trends such as big data and leadership. Moocs are seen by many in the education sector as a direct threat to MBA and master's programs, offering similar content developed by tenure or tenure-track professors, but free of charge.

Remember when the for profit university rose to a new prominence a decade or so ago, and everyone you knew flocked to the University of Phoenix to finish their degree and get a fabulous new job? I hope the MOOC doesn't turn into that. The hope was that it would enable those isolated by distance and means would elevate themselves thru their use. Sadly, according to findings by Forbes, it's mostly white, educated, employed American males taking them. I wonder which carries more weight with hiring managers--the MOOC-taker, or the traditional paying student?

Over 250 colleges have joined the consortium and many more participate in our activities and use resources posted here. The Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources (CCCOER)is a joint effort by individual community colleges, regional and statewide consortia, the Open Courseware Consortium, the American Association for Community Colleges, the League for Innovation in the Community Colleges, and many other educational partners to develop and use open educational resources, open textbooks, and open courseware to expand access to higher education and improve teaching and learning.

A timely article on the Outernet, a service that can broadcast e-books and culled information from the internet to less wealthy nations who do not have access to the internet. A few criticisms of the emerging technology do arise: addressing literacy in less developed locations, questioning whether the information broadcast is information that would be suited for that community, and finally whether there would be a prioritization of information with paid net-connected organizations.

"But what about for the many people in the world that lack internet connectivity? The answer is still yes - at least according to Syed Karim, who explained how at TEDGlobal. The entrepreneur had been invited to the human ingenuity-themed event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to speak about his company, Outernet. The business aims to address the fact that about two-thirds of the world's population still has no internet access."

Thank you for posting this article about Syed Karim's TED talk as I had not seen it before and found it very interesting. With the outernet, I believe people living in places where this is inadequate or no access to the internet will be able to accrue information. However, I still believe more efforts need to be done to expand the web so that all can partake.

El objetivo de este documento es proponer a las bibliotecas universitarias una estrategia tecnológica para adaptarse a los cambios que se están produciendo en los ámbitos del aprendizaje y la investigación. Los principales cambios a los que nos vamos a referir son: la web es la nueva plataforma para la comunicación de la información, esta web está orientada no sólo a los humanos sino también a las máquinas y está potenciando el trabajo en red y en colaboración. Por otra parte, esta forma de trabajar está generando un nuevo concepto de unidad de información, modelada no sólo por la necesidad de representar nuevas formas de publicación (texto, data, simulaciones…) en las nuevas prácticas científicas, sino también por los cambios en la naturaleza de las herramientas de creación y los entornos en que se usan. Finalmente, cada vez más, los usuarios no sólo consumen información, sino que también quieren participar en su generación (blogs, wikis, youtube, slideshare...). Se describen las implicaciones que esos cambios están teniendo en el entorno de las bibliotecas universitarias: la importancia del e-learning, los CRAI y el nuevo modelo de comunicación y publicación científica y se indican algunas líneas de actuación para orientar la estrategia tecnológica de las bibliotecas a la luz de estas transformaciones: nuevo concepto de unidad de información, interoperabilidad, flexibilidad y arquitecturas abiertas.

The internet has is and will continue to change how we educate our children but we will still be using university's perhaps a younger student population will emerge as access instantaneous, making learning faster , less time required to achieve a high school level.

Alison Hicks uses the example of foreign languages to explore the integration of critical information literacy into the curriculum of various disciplines. The paper provides an example of a librarian who integrated critical information literacy into curriculum and proposes that this approach could be effective in global learning initiatives.

I found this article trying to learn more about 3D printing and museums after seeing a recent headline on the topic. This article reminded me a lot of what was discussed in the module on participatory culture. Visiting a museum is a fairly "closed" experience in most museums the visitors are separated from the objects on display (for obvious reasons), it is interesting to see museums "open" in this very limited context, giving people ways to interact with certain museum objects in more ways than just the standard way one would in a visit to a museum.

I really love this Jeff Jarvis talk. Education must change. Connected learning is our challenge!

I strongly disagree with their list of 'crap' detecting guidelines. "Credentials"? "Reputable"? Fact or Fiction"? You gotta be kidding me. Most credentialed people I know are lost in the sea of institutionalized learning, and with it comes their arrogance that they know better - they don't. Those known as reputable are not walking the bleeding edge of knowledge. And fact/fiction is turning inside out as we begin to see more and more historical fictional information is now shown to be based in fact. ... LOL! ... (Not that I have an emotional attachment to this issue.) ;) ;)
