A couple of years I was involved in a project whose results could be interesting for the module 2. The research tried to understand the new practices of young people (including training, networking, use of digital resources, etc.) related to the arts, publishing, digital production, among others. The research was carried out in Mexico City and Madrid with two interdisciplinary teams. The results can be found at: http://www.fundacion.telefonica.com/es/arte_cultura/publicaciones/detalle/164

Unfortunately, the text is available only in Spanish. The issue is relevant because it does not focus on the general practices of young people but in those associated with specific cultural fields (visual arts, publishing, etc.), what help us to understand the use of IT in particular niches by specific groups.

Very good text and site. I was impressed by the ways of reading (particularly, the dynamic book and the open book)

Immanuel Wallerstein argues in "Chaos as an Everyday Thing" (http://www.iwallerstein.com/chaos-as-an-everyday-thin): "You know you're living in a chaotic situation when (1) the mainstream media are constantly surprised by what is happening; (2) short-term predictions by various pundits go in radically different directions and are stated with many reserves; (3) the Establishment dares to say things or use words that were previously taboo; (4) ordinary people are frightened and angry but very unsure what to do. This is a good description of the past two years throughout the world, or at least in most parts of the world."
Today I have the feeling that the reflections on the issues that concern us are suffering such a radical transformation that the task we impose on ourselves is a very complex one.

How do university researchers consider attributes such as 'digital' and 'open' as regards to their research practices? This article reports a small-scale interview project carried out at the University of Milan, aiming to probe whether and to what extent actual digital research practices are affecting cultures of sharing in different subject areas and are prompting emergent approaches such as open publishing, open data, open education and open boundary between academia and society. Most of the 14 interviewed researchers seem not to see any clear benefit to move to further technological means or new open practices and call for institutional support and rules. However, a few profiles of 'digital, networked and open' researchers stand out and show both a self-legitimating approach to new modes of knowledge production and distribution and a particular sensitiveness towards values and perspectives driven by 'openness' in digital networks.
