The PDF Student Travel Award enables eligible students working in Parkinson's disease research to attend and present data at relevant scientific conferences. Awards are available up to $1,000 and can be used to pay for conference registration, transportation and hotel. Applicants must justify the amount requested based on the projected cost of the above expenses. After the conference, students will be asked to submit reports regarding the conference and receipts for the expenses justified in the application.

The International Foundation for Ethical Research supports the development, validation, and implementation of innovative scientific methodologies that advance science and replace the use of animals in research, testing, and education. To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for the IFER Graduate Fellowship Program from graduate students whose program of study shows the greatest potential to replace the use of animals in science. Grants of up $15,000 will be awarded to students enrolled in master's and doctoral programs in the sciences or human/veterinary medicine to support the development of alternatives to the use of animals in research, testing, and education. Fellowships are renewable annually for up to three years. Continued funding is dependent on student progress and the availability of funds. Fellowships will be considered for graduate students in fields such as education, psychology, humanities, journalism, and the law for projects that show promise to increase public awareness or promote changes in the legal system or public policy regarding the use of animals in research, testing, and education. For minority students only The Foundation of the American College of Healthcare Executives established this scholarship in honor of Albert W. Dent, the first African-American Fellow of ACHE. This scholarship is offered to provide financial aid to minority students in healthcare management graduate programs to help offset tuition costs, student loans and expenses.

The Simons Foundation is accepting applications for the Simons Award for Graduate Students in Theoretical Computer Science program from graduate students with an outstanding track record of research accomplishments. The annual program is designed to identify and support these students and enable them to pursue collaborations with their peers and more senior researchers. Awards provide up to $24,000 a year for two years. Awardees must be a graduate student for the duration of the award. Each award will provide up to $8,500 a year for the awardee to use at his/her discretion (e.g., travel to summer research locations or to conferences, equipment, books, personal computer); up to $9,000 a year for summer salary support; $2,500 a year to help enhance the research atmosphere of the awardee's department; and $4,000 to the institution for administrative expenses.

The goal of the Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) program is to prepare graduate students for science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) careers critically important to the DOE Office of Science mission, by providing graduate thesis research opportunities at DOE laboratories.  The SCGSR program provides supplemental awards to outstanding U.S. graduate students to pursue part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE laboratory in areas that address scientific challenges central to the Office of Science mission. The research opportunity is expected to advance the graduate students' overall doctoral thesis while providing access to the expertise, resources, and capabilities available at the DOE laboratories.

EPA's P3 - People, Prosperity and the Planet - Program is a unique competition that is open to teams of college/university students working to design solutions for a sustainable future. P3 offers students hands-on experience that brings their classroom learning to life, while also allowing them to create tangible changes in their communities. This annual, two-phased research grants program challenges students to research, develop, and design innovative projects that address real world challenges involving all areas of environmental protection and public health. Phase I serves as a "proof of concept," where teams are awarded a one-year grant of up to $25,000 to develop their idea and showcase their research in the spring at EPA's National Student Design Expo (NSDE). These teams are then eligible to compete for a Phase II grant of up to $100,000 to implement their design in a real world setting. P3 aims to foster progress towards environmental awareness by achieving the symbiotic goals of improved quality of life for all people, economic prosperity, and protection of the planet - people, prosperity and the planet.

The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation. REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs or in research projects specifically designed for the REU program. This solicitation features two mechanisms for support of student research: (1) REU Sites are based on independent proposals to initiate and conduct projects that engage a number of students in research. REU Sites may be based in a single discipline or academic department or may offer interdisciplinary or multi-department research opportunities with a coherent intellectual theme. Proposals with an international dimension are welcome. (2) REU Supplements may be included as a component of proposals for new or renewal NSF grants or cooperative agreements or may be requested for ongoing NSF-funded research projects.

The Karma for Cara Foundation was established by 21-year-old Cara Becker and her family while Cara was being treated for leukemia. Created in Cara's hospital room, what began as a couple of blood drives grew quickly, and the foundation now supports young citizen leaders nationwide. To that end, the foundation is inviting applications for its micro-grant program. Through the program, grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded to students 18 years of age and under to complete a project that benefits their communities. Grants are intended to serve as a bridge between ideas and action, helping young citizen leaders execute and magnify their initiatives to help repair the world. Examples of fundable projects include transforming a vacant lot into a community garden, rebuilding a school playground, or helping senior citizens ready their home for winter. The foundation requests that applicants applying on behalf of an entire class or student group designate a maximum of three student leaders to be the main points of contact for the project. NSF has identified improvement of graduate student preparedness for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workforce as one of its priorities. As part of this effort, a supplemental funding opportunity is available in fiscal year (FY) 2018 and FY 2019 to provide support for non-academic research internships for graduate students to support career opportunities in any sector of the U.S. economy. NSF currently invests in a number of graduate student preparedness activities and has historically encouraged principal investigators (PIs) to include such activities in research proposals to NSF. This Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) describes new commitments and funding opportunities at NSF to ensure graduate students are prepared for the 21st-century STEM workforce.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association is a member-led organization dedicated to the well-being and lifelong success of college athletes. Through its research unit, the NCAA conducts national research for its members on a wide variety of topics, including academic performance, student-athlete well-being, finances of intercollegiate athletics programs, gender-equity and diversity issues, and many others. The NCAA Innovations in Research and Practice Grant Program supports research and data-driven pilot programs designed to enhance student-athlete psychosocial well-being and mental health. In 2018, the program will award grants of up to $25,000 in grants to member institutions that are piloting on-campus programs designed to enhance the well-being of NCAA student-athletes. Potential topics include but are not limited to managing transitions (e.g., from recruit to first-year student; transferring between universities; adapting from youth sports to a college sports environment; developing independence from parents), identity development, stress management, substance use, bystander intervention, cultivating healthy relationships, career exploration, and sport exit strategies. Grant recipients will be invited to present their pilot programs to hundreds of key stakeholders in intercollegiate athletics in January 2019 at the NCAA Convention in Orlando, Florida.

The Kinsey Institute Student Research Grants program confers sexuality research grants to emerging scholars and seeks to fund significant and innovative research, from a wide array of disciplines and perspectives, that deals with human sexuality. The program is supported by donations from Friends of The Kinsey Institute The Kinsey Institute will fund up to four proposals at $1000 each, including two from graduate students at Indiana University and two from graduate students enrolled at other universities. It is an expectation that results from the funded studies will ultimately be submitted for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals. In addition, descriptions of the research will be posted on The Kinsey Institute's website.

ACSM Foundation Research Grants for doctoral students up to $5,000 for a one-year period. The awards are to be used for experimental subjects, supplies, and small equipment needs. Doctoral students enrolled in full-time programs are eligible to apply.

In 2004, the American Society of Parasitologists began a new program to provide small grants to students studying parasitology. At this time, the ASP is able to fund one graduate student ($1000) and one undergraduate student ($500) doing research in the field of parasitology.

Proposals are being sought for Hyde Graduate Student Research Grants. These grants, each up to $500, are awarded to doctoral psychology students to support feminist research. The grants are made possible through the generosity of Janet Shibley Hyde, Ph.D., who donates the royalties from her book, Half the Human Experience, to this fund. Past recipients of Hyde Graduate Student Research Grants are not eligible to apply. Because the purpose of this award is to facilitate research that otherwise might not be possible, projects that are beyond the data analysis stage are not eligible.

NSF and selected foreign counterpart science and technology agencies sponsor international research institutes for U.S. graduate students in seven East Asia and Pacific locations at times set by the counterpart agencies between June and August each year. The Summer Institutes (EAPSI) operate similarly and the research visits to a particular location take place at the same time. Although applicants apply individually to participate in a Summer Institute, awardees become part of the cohort for each location. Applicants must propose a location, host scientist, and research project that is appropriate for the host site and duration of the international visit. An EAPSI award provides U.S. graduate students in science, engineering, and education: 1) first-hand research experiences in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, or Taiwan; 2) an introduction to the science, science policy, and scientific infrastructure of the respective location; and 3) an orientation to the society, culture, and language. It is expected that EAPSI awards will help students initiate professional relationships to enable future collaboration with foreign counterparts. The NSF award includes participation in the Pre-Departure Orientation, summer stipend of $5,000, and roundtrip airplane ticket to the host location. EAPSI partner agencies pay in-country living expenses during the Summer Institutes.
