The REM program supports the active involvement of research participants: high school students, STEM teachers, undergraduate STEM students, faculty, and veterans, in hands-on research in order to bring this rich research experience and contact with suitable STEM mentors into participants' lives. The main goals of the REM program are to provide research experiences and mentoring opportunities to STEM students and/or educators that may ultimately enhance their career and academic trajectories while enhancing EFRI-supported research. The REM program may also enable the building of long-term collaborative partnerships among EFRI-supported researchers, the NSF university research community, and local school districts.

The Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC) Undergraduate Student Training in Academic Research (U-STAR) program is designed to provide structured training programs to prepare high-achieving, underrepresented students for doctoral programs in biomedical research fields. Programmatic activities should include authentic research experiences, academic enhancements, skills development, and mentoring. Institutions eligible for MARC U-STAR grants are those with significant enrollments of honors students from groups underrepresented in the biomedical sciences. The long-term goal of the program is to  enhance the pool of underrepresented students earning baccalaureate and Ph.D degrees in biomedical research fields and ultimately to contribute to the diversification of the nation's scientific workforce.

The Midwest Slavic Association, with support from the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES), is now welcoming submissions for its annual student essay prize competition for undergraduate and graduate students. Interested students can submit a paper on any topic related to Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies to the Midwest Slavic Association for consideration. The best undergraduate paper received will win a one-year membership to ASEEES, and the graduate winner will receive a one-year membership to ASEEES, as well as being considered then for the ASEEES Student Essay Prize at the national level.

The goal of the Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) program is to prepare graduate students for science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) careers critically important to the DOE Office of Science mission, by providing graduate thesis research opportunities at DOE laboratories.  The SCGSR program provides supplemental awards to outstanding U.S. graduate students to pursue part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE laboratory/facility in areas that address scientific challenges central to the Office of Science mission. The research opportunity is expected to advance the graduate students' overall doctoral thesis while providing access to the expertise, resources, and capabilities available at the DOE laboratories/facilities. The SCGSR program is sponsored and managed by the DOE Office of Science's Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists (WDTS), in collaboration with the 6 Office of Science research programs and the DOE national laboratories/facilities. Online application and awards administration support is provided by Oak Ridge Institute of Science and Education (ORISE) under Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU). The SCGSR program provides supplemental funds for graduate awardees to conduct part of their thesis research at a host DOE laboratory/facility in collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist within a defined award period. Collaborating DOE Laboratory Scientists may be from any of the participating DOE national laboratories/facilities. The award period for the proposed research project at DOE laboratories/facilities may range from 3 to 12 consecutive months.

VentureWell, with the support from the Whitaker International Program, is implementing a new grants program, BME-IDEA International: Developing Global Connections for US-based BME Design Faculty and Students. The BME-IDEA International grants program will support collaborative project opportunities for US-based BME design students and faculty across the BME-IDEA global network and will connect faculty members of the consortium to share resources, best practices, ideas, curriculum, knowledge, challenges, and opportunities around innovation in BME design. The two goals of the BME-IDEA International grants program are to: 1) Build strong partnerships between US-based and global BME design and innovation programs, including exchanges of faculty, students, resources, and best practices. 2) Foster the development of US-trained leaders in BME design and innovation who understand the challenges of teaching and practice in this field around the world, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) in Africa and Latin America. Faculty Grants: Grants of up to $4,000 will be awarded to US-based faculty for global project explorations and/or experiences to enhance their professional development and knowledge base within the field of biomedical design and innovation.  Student Grants: Grants of up to $9,000 will be awarded to student teams for the development and implementation of BME projects focused on innovation, design, and entrepreneurship.

The CSWE Gero-Ed Center will provide a travel scholarship for a baccalaureate or master's level social work student with an interest in aging to attend the 2013 CSWE Annual Program Meeting (APM) and its Gero-Ed Track events. The student awardee will receive a complimentary APM registration and $500 to be used toward travel expenses. The student will be expected to write a short reflection about his or her experience at APM that will be featured on our website.

Society for Free Radical Biology and Medicine Travel Awards SFRBM's Outreach Committee are making Travel Awards available to students and postdoctoral fellows who wish to attend SFRBM 2013. Ten (10) awards at $500 each will be presented to postdoc and student SFRBM members in the US. An additional ten (10) awards at $1,000 each will be given by SFRBM to postdoc or student SFRBM members outside the United States -- those eligible include members from Canada, Latin and South America as well as all students and postdocs outside SFRR Americas.

Student research award The J. Larry Landers Student Research Award is a Gopher Tortoise Council competitive grant program for undergraduate and graduate college students. Proposals can address research concerning gopher tortoise biology or any other relevant aspect of upland habitat conservation and management.

The U.S. Diplomacy Center (USDC) announces a Notice of Funding Opportunity for up to $198,000 for an implementer (simulations coordination team) to work on the Diplomatic Simulations Program. In this unique educational program, students role play diplomatic representatives of different sides negotiating a solution to an international dispute. The focus will mainly be on international students. Students learn to use the tools of diplomacy to engage constructively with foreign governments and international groups on global issues. The project will require, but is not limited to, curriculum design and simulation writing, as well as filming and editing video clips that introduce the program and support the content of the simulations. The simulations coordination team will also develop online resources geared to both U.S. and international audiences, for teachers to use with students.

The University of South Alabama offers an interdisciplinary undergraduate research program sponsored by the National Science Foundation to work for 10 weeks over the summer semester in the area of "Structure and Function of Proteins".  Students accepted to the program must have a strong interest in basic research, and are expected to work full time in their projects under the direction of faculty advisors. Important Information Applicants must be US citizens or Permanent Residents (Green Card). Students must have completed one of the following courses or course sequences before the summer: Organic Chemistry sequence, Biochemistry sequence, Thermodynamics or Statics. All participants receive a stipend, free housing, food allowance and travel expenses. Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher. Neither the University of South Alabama nor the National Science Foundation can provide health insurance to participants in the program. All participants are fully responsible for their own health insurance coverage. Accepted students are required to adhere to all policies of the University of South Alabama Student Handbook (The Lowdown) and Residence Life Handbook

Since 1995, the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance has awarded scholarships to outstanding undergraduate and graduate student members. The Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship, developed by the past presidents of AAHPERD to honor deserving students, is awarded to three undergraduate students and two graduate students in January of each year. All scholarships are presented at the AAHPERD National Convention & Exposition held in the spring. Undergraduate awards are $1,250 each and graduate awards are $1,750 each. Recipients also receive a complimentary three-year AAHPERD membership.

The Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid of Research (GIAR) program has been providing undergraduate and graduate students with valuable educational experiences for more than 80 years. By encouraging close working relationships between students and faculty, the program promotes scientific excellence and achievement through hands-on learning. The program awards grants of up to $1,000 to students from all areas of the sciences and engineering. Designated funds from the National Academy of Sciences allow for grants of up to $5,000 for astronomy research and $2,500 for vision related research. Students use the funding to pay for travel expenses to and from a research site, or for purchase of non-standard laboratory equipment necessary to complete a specific research project.

The theme of this year's Geothermal Student Competition, sponsored by DOE is GeoEnergy is Beautiful 2014. Student teams from leading colleges and universities, as well as high school seniors are invited to create concepts for high-quality, high-impact infographics and outreach materials that convey the important role of geothermal energy in the nation's clean energy mix. Energy production can be a complex topic to explain to a broad public audience, and describing energy that comes from a subsurface environment-difficult to visualize for many-amplifies the challenge of explaining geothermal energy, how it works, and how it can benefit the U.S.  The GSC therefore invites student to develop cutting-edge geothermal communications tools that marry accurate, technical information with a graphical visualization. These visualizations, often referred to as infographics, are put to use in various media outlets by the federal government, private companies, institutions and individuals to convey ideas and messages. Infographics provide the opportunity to distill large quantities of data and information to facilitate insight, comprehend relationships and patterns, and understand complex messages with a minimum of words.  

The Jack Kent Cooke Dissertation Fellowship Award supports advanced doctoral students who are completing dissertations that further the understanding of the educational pathways and experiences of high-achieving, low-income students. We seek to provide funding for doctoral candidates whose work informs and advances the following populations/aspects of our mission: high-achieving students from low-income backgrounds, and/or students who demonstrate the potential for achievement, and/or the conditions that promote high achievement (e.g., school settings, interventions, policies).

The Society for the Anthropology of Food and Nutrition (SAFN) is pleased to invite students to submit papers in competition for the 2013 Christine Wilson Awards presented to outstanding undergraduate and graduate student research papers that examine topics within the perspectives in nutrition, food studies and anthropology. Papers may report on research undertaken in whole or in part by the author. Co -authored work is acceptable, provided that submitting student is first author. Papers must have as their primary focus an anthropological approach to the study of food and/or nutrition and must present original, empirical research; literature reviews are not eligible. Papers that propose a new conceptual framework or outline novel research designs or methodological approaches are especially welcome. Winners will be recognized and presented with an award at the 2013 AAA meeting in Chicago, IL and receive a year's membership in SAFN.

The Medici Archive Project (MAP) wishes to provide graduate and doctoral students from diverse disciplines with the opportunity to have exposure to original source materials and training in their use. For this reason MAP is offering five short-term fellowships sponsored by the SAMUEL FREEMAN CHARITABLE TRUST (SFCF) for graduate students in any field of the humanities or social sciences who are in the early stages of their dissertation work. The SFCF fellowships have been developed to enable students working on their dissertations to conduct primary research using the Mediceo del Principato and other collections housed in the Archivio di Stato in Florence. This scholarly residence will be of considerable benefit in helping the students to gain the necessary skills, experience and confidence to continue independent academic research in the later stages of their graduate trajectory. While undertaking primary research for their dissertation in the Florentine state archives, the Fellows will benefit from the supervision of the MAP Staff, academics drawn from a variety of disciplines who are experts in archival research, paleography and the digital humanities. The Fellows will also have the opportunity to expand their academic networks through contact with the many international scholars who regularly visit and collaborate with MAP. Finally, Fellows will be enrolled in the annual MAP Archival Studies Seminar. The fellowships last for an uninterrupted period of two-and-a-half months, taking place at any point between 1 January 2014 and 15 July 2014. The SFCT Fellows will undertake their dissertation research on-site in the Archivio di Stato. The candidates will have the following qualifications: a completed M.Phil (or equivalent) in any field of early modern humanities and fluency in English and Italian.

The American College Health Foundation, through the Murray DeArmond Student Activity Fund, will offer funding to partially offset hotel and travel expenses for one or more students to attend the 2015 ACHA Annual Meeting. Award decisions will be made by the ACHF Board of Directors in conjunction with the ACHA Student/Consumers Section.

The purpose of the AED Student Research Grant Program is to support innovative and cutting-edge research conducted by student members of the AED. In 2015, the AED will award up to two grants of $1,000 each to support any aspect of a student research project, including (but not limited to) participant payments, support staff salaries, and costs related to study assessments and/or database management. However, funds may not be used for travel or salary/stipend support for the awardee.

The Urso Summer Student Program in PSP Research will support students conducting summer research projects focused on progressive supranuclear palsy. This program seeks to encourage students at all post-secondary levels to pursue research in this field in the hope of making PSP a long-term area of research interest. Projects may be in basic, translational, clinical or epidemiological aspects of PSP.

The Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) Program provides college students with an opportunity to gain and develop research skills with the Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy for 10 weeks over the summer. For 20 years, this program has increased awareness of DOE research opportunities to students pursuing STEM degrees (short for science, technology, engineering and math). The goal of the program is to improve opportunities for women and minority students in these fields, however all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply. Selected candidates will train under the mentorship of program officials and scientists on focused research projects consistent with the mission of the Office of Fossil Energy. During the 10 weeks, Fellows will receive a stipend and some students may be eligible to receive housing and travel allowance for the duration of the program. At the conclusion of the program, Fellows are required to attend a "Technical Forum" where they will present their research findings and tour a technical site located nearby (the location of the technical forum changes every year).
