OARS funding Nursing

Through its Science of Hope and Optimism Funding Initiative program, the association will award two-year grants of up to $250,000 for research projects that use a variety of methods to explore the nature of hope and optimism. Priority will be given to projects in cognitive, developmental, personality, health, and social psychology, as well as sociology. Interdisciplinary teams that include members from cognate areas - e.g., cognitive science, anthropology, nursing, and biology - are encouraged.

American Association of Occupational Health Nurses Foundation Scholarship Program

The ABNN Certification Grant is awarded to AANN members to provide financial assistance who have not yet obtained the Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN) or Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN) credential.  The total number of grant recipients will be determined by the AMWF Board of Directors.

The Nurse in Washington Internship (NIWI) Program is an annual event sponsored by the Nursing Organizations Alliance (The Alliance) and the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is one of the participating organizations. The next NIWI Program is scheduled to be held March 15-17, 2015, in Arlington, Virginia (across the river from Washington DC). The Alliance sponsors the internship to promote the interests of its member groups through education, research, and health-policy activities. Over the years, more than one thousand nurses have attended NIWI, many of whom have become influential participants in the political process at state and federal levels. Deadline to apply is November 1, 2014.

The Academic Education Scholarship was implemented as a means of helping PENS to meet its goal of advancing the art and science of pediatric endocrine nursing. PENS is committed to increasing the knowledge base and enhancing the professional development of nurses in the field of pediatric endocrinology. Education is one of several means of professional development, and PENS has provided the Academic Education Scholarship to help its members meet academic goals.

The Pediatric Endocrinology Nursing Society (PENS) Continuing Education Scholarship exists to enable pediatric endocrine nurses to advance their knowledge in the areas of endocrine and growth disorders, endocrine nursing research and current issues in pediatric endocrinology nursing. Scholarship recipients can use these funds for travel, lodging and registration expenses related to the PENS conference.

To recognize ONS members who have made outstanding contributions to the field of oncology nursing and to ONS; who have been important leaders within the Society and in their communities; and who exemplify the mission and core values of ONS (Integrity, Innovation, Stewardship, Advocacy, Excellence, and Inclusiveness).

To recognize the contributions of a member who has conducted or promoted research that has enhanced the science and practice of oncology nursing.

The Donna Pruzansky Memorial Fund (DPMF) Grant for Nurses is awarded from the DPMF for Maternal and Child Health Nursing and is sponsored by the Cleft Palate Foundation. The DPMF Grant provides a one-year membership in the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association (ACPA), registration fees for the meeting, and a $500.00 stipend intended to offset expenses for travel to and from the meeting.

This program provides fellowships, through academic departments and programs of IHEs, to assist graduate students with excellent records who demonstrate financial need and plan to pursue the highest degree available in their course study at the institution in a field designated as an area of national need.

Mark your calendar for the 2015 NIH Regional Seminar on Program Funding and Grants Administration in Baltimore, Maryland - May 6-8, 2015. This two-day seminar, with an optional third day of pre-seminar workshops, is ideal for anyone in the extramural research community who is new to working with NIH grants, including administrators, new and early stage investigators, and grant writers. Registration will open in early 2015.

The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) is pleased to offer a limited number of conference grants. These grants will be used to subsidize the cost of attendance for individuals to attend either CUR Dialogues 2015: Climbing the Ladder to Funding Success: Diverse Sources, Diverse Pathways or Undergraduate Research Programs: Building, Enhancing, Sustaining. Nominees are asked to provide contact and demographic information, a statement of expenses, a statement describing financial need, and a statement on expected outcomes from attending the conference. Historically under-represented groups and first-time attendees will be given priority. The review committee will work to ensure awardees represent a diverse subset of the applicants, specifically across discipline/CUR Division and geographic location. Awardees will receive the conference grant as a rebate after their confirmed participation in the conference, and the submission of reimbursement paperwork.

In September, Miami received notice from the government that our new F&A rates are: 44.5% for On Campus Organized Research 44.0% On Campus Sponsored Instruction 39.0% On Campus Other Sponsored Activities 26.0% Off Campus All Programs These rates are effective beginning September 1, 2014. Awards received beginning in September and all proposal submissions going forward will be required to use the new rates.

To recognize and support achievements and involvement of patient advocacy across the cancer treatment continuum, particularly as it relates to survivorship issues.

To recognize and support excellence in radiation therapy nursing.

To recognize and support excellence of nursing contributions to medical oncology

To recognize and support an oncology nurse who demonstrates age sensitive health interventions, quality care, and symptom management to older adult patients with cancer.

This award is in memory of Linda Arenth, an active ONS and ONCC member who served as the Johns Hopkins Cancer Center's first director of nursing.  She started what is now a nationally known system to assign nursing services for different categories of cancer patients.  This award recognizes and supports excellence in both cancer nursing management and administration.

Purpose: This award is named in memory of Dr. Mary Nowotny, an active ONS member and past chair of the ONS Education Committee.  She was a cancer-education advocate throughout her career and a widely published author, writing many articles on the measurement and significance of hope in patients with cancer.  The Mary Nowotny Excellence in Cancer Nursing Education award recognizes and supports excellence in cancer nursing education.
