HEALTH OUTCOMES RESEARCH: Outcomes research spans a broad spectrum of issues from studies evaluating the effectiveness of a particular pharmaceutical intervention to the impact of reimbursement policies on the outcomes of care. It also ranges from the development and use of tools to perform patient-based assessments to analyses of the best way to disseminate the results of outcomes research to providers or consumers to encourage behavior change. Outcomes research incorporates a variety of research methods from various disciplines. The application of outcomes research principles in evaluating the design, delivery, and effectiveness of pharmaceuticals includes the following general areas: * Burden of Disease * Comparative Effectiveness Research * Compliance/Adherence * Cost Consequences Analysis * Cost-Benefit Analysis * Cost-Effectiveness Analysis * Cost Utility Analysis * Patient Satisfaction * Patient Preferences * Psychometric Evaluation of Questionnaires (e.g. reliability, validity, etc.)

Awards in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics - 0 views

  •
TRANSLATIONAL MEDICINE AND THERAPEUTICS: The goal of the PhRMA Foundation's Translational Medicine and Therapeutics Program is to promote the development and use of experimental and computational methods in an integrative approach towards clinical needs in diagnosis, treatment and prevention. This can involve enhanced understanding of human biological and disease processes but requires a strong translational component. This program will support the concepts of Translational Medicine and Therapeutics as defined by the Foundation: "Translational medicine and therapeutics is a discipline focused on bridging experimental and computational technologies and discoveries in the research laboratory to their application in clinical practice. Examples of research components include activities in molecular and cellular biology, pathophysiology, systems biology, bioinformatics, modeling and simulation, and other quantitative sciences to connect basic biological concepts and entities to directly address unmet medical needs. The goals are to use clinical observation as the basis for hypothesis generation to further basic research and to efficiently advance the product of basic research to patients." Translational Medicine and Therapeutics awards will advance training and support career development of scientists engaged in research that significantly integrates cutting-edge technologies with advanced biological, chemical, and pharmacological sciences and engineering methodologies in such areas as (but not restricted to): * Genetics (Molecular, Pharmaco-, Population, Medical) * Genomics (Functional, Structural, Toxico-, Pharmaco-, Comparative) * Systems (Biology and Pharmacology) * Pathways and networks * Integrative biology * Modeling and simulation * Target Identification and Validation * Biomarker Discovery and Validation * Vaccine Development * Molecular Epidimiology * Imaging * Disease Modeling

U.S. EPA: Environmental Health Disparities Centers Kick-off Meeting Wed, Jul 20, 2016 a... - 0 views

  •
The Centers of Excellence on Environmental Health Disparities (EHD) research program is a collaborative effort supported by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that encourages basic, biological, clinical, epidemiological, behavioral and/or social scientific investigations of disease conditions that are known to be a significant burden in low socioeconomic and health disparate populations. The centers define environmental health disparities as inequities in illnesses that are mediated by disproportionate exposures associated with the social, natural and built environments. The kick-off meeting will feature presentations from each of the five funded centers highlighting their proposed research.

Explorations in Global Health - GHRIC, Miami University - 0 views

  •
The Global Health Research Innovation Center (GHRIC) is pleased to announce a call for proposals for faculty research grants. These grants are designed to foster the development of research initiatives and partnership projects in global health. Grants will be made to Miami faculty to undertake small-scale, collaborative pilot research projects in global health and/or travel (of Miami faculty or domestic/international collaborators) to cultivate research relationships through establishing institutional linkages and jointly developing or writing research proposals. The expectation is that at least one outcome of each project will be the submission of an external grant proposal. Proposed projects must involve at least two Miami faculty members from different departments. Budgets are expected to be between $4000-$8000. We expect to award at least 2 grants for the 2016-2017 academic year. If funded, additional funding of up to $1000 may be available to help support presentation of the proposed project at either the annual conference of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health or the Global Health and Innovation Conference (Unite for Sight).

DoD Combat Casualty Care Prolonged Field Care Research Award - 0 views

  •
The intent of the PFCRA is to target the emerging need to provide extended trauma care prior to reaching a location that can provide definitive hemorrhage and contamination control. Trauma care during this period is often called "Prolonged Field Care" (PFC). Traditionally, improvements to the trauma care system have focused on shortening evacuation times from the point of injury to the first surgical site. However, in future conflicts or mass trauma events, it is anticipated that the initial evacuation time, and thus initial surgical hemorrhage and contamination control, may be delayed for hours or days. This challenge also requires research to develop new solutions to provide for prolonged Damage Control Resuscitation (pDCR) including: support for medical providers in the out-of-hospital setting (point of injury, austere environment, or en route care) with limited resources; understanding the physiologic impact of pDCR; and techniques to mitigate the negative effects of delayed surgical intervention. The research and solutions must be focused on patient-level interventions and outcomes, rather than the broader trauma system. However, proposed research and solutions should consider the entire continuum of trauma care. The JPC-6/CCCRP has identified three overarching Focus Areas for funding under this Program Announcement/Funding Opportunity.

Pragmatic Clinical Studies to Evaluate Patient-Centered Outcomes - Cycle 2 2016 | PCORI - 0 views

  •
PCORI seeks to fund pragmatic clinical trials, large simple trials, or large-scale observational studies that compare two or more alternatives for addressing prevention, diagnosis, treatment, or management of a disease or symptom; improving healthcare system-level approaches to managing care; communicating or disseminating research results to patients, caregivers, or clinicians; or eliminating health or healthcare disparities. Proposed studies must address critical clinical choices faced by patients, their caregivers, clinicians, or delivery systems. They must involve broadly representative patient populations and be large enough to provide precise estimates of hypothesized effectiveness differences and to support evaluation of potential differences in treatment effectiveness in patient subgroups.

Life Course Research Network - 0 views

  •
This announcement solicits applications for the Life Course Research Network (LCRN).  The life course theory posits that multiple determinants, such as health care, nutrition, stress and supports, and environmental exposures, operating over the life course are critical drivers of MCH outcomes.  The LCRN is designed to accelerate the translation of the life course theory to MCH practice and policy and foster its rapid adoption into clinical and public health settings through systems integration and collaboration among entities interested in improving MCH outcomes. This cooperative agreement opportunity will establish and maintain an interdisciplinary, multi-site research network.  A network is a scientific forum for collaboration and infrastructure building that provides national leadership to improve and advance the field of life course research.
