ABMRF/The Foundation for Alcohol Research: Grants - 0 views

    The Foundation accepts applications for grants to conduct research on the effects of alcohol consumption on health and behavior. The following areas are of greater interest: Studies on how particular patterns of consumption (quantity of alcohol consumed, types of alcoholic beverages consumed, frequency of consumption and context) are related to health and behavioral outcomes. Interdisciplinary, bio-informatics, and other approaches to elucidate genetic and environmental factors that influence the patterns of consumption of alcoholic beverages and related consequences. The Foundation encourages basic and clinical research, including epidemiology. Examples of research topics include factors influencing underage drinking, mechanisms of alcohol-related organ injury, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, and effects of alcohol on general health.   The Foundation gives preference to young investigators, but does not support students or trainees in pre- or post-doctoral programs. It does not fund thesis or dissertation research. Grants are made to academic and research institutions in the United States, Canada and South Africa, not to individuals. Evidence of support for the investigator from the institution is desirable.

AAAS - AAAS Early Career Award for Public Engagement with Science - 0 views

    The AAAS Early Career Award for Public Engagement with Science, established in 2010, recognizes early-career scientists and engineers who demonstrate excellence in their contribution to public engagement with science activities. A monetary prize of $5,000, a commemorative plaque, complimentary registration to the AAAS Annual Meeting, and reimbursement for reasonable hotel and travel expenses to attend the AAAS Annual Meeting to receive the prize are given to the recipient. Nominee must be an early-career scientist or engineer in academia, government or industry actively conducting research in any scientific discipline (including social sciences and medicine).  "Early career" is defined as an individual who has been in his/her current field for less than seven years and pre-tenure or job equivalent. Post-doctoral students are eligible for this award. Nominee will have demonstrated excellence in his/her contribution to public engagement with science activities, with a focus on interactive dialogue between the individual and a non-scientific, public audience(s). Types of public engagement activities might include: informal science education, public outreach, public policy, and/or science communication activities, such as mass media, public dialogue, radio, TV and film, science café, science exhibit, science fair, and social and online media.

    The purpose of the Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) program is to stimulate research in educational institutions that provide baccalaureate or advanced degrees for a significant number of the Nation's research scientists, but that have not been major recipients of NIH support. AREA grants create opportunities for scientists and institutions, otherwise unlikely to participate extensively in NIH research programs, to contribute to the Nation's biomedical and behavioral research effort. AREA grants are intended to support small-scale research projects proposed by faculty members of eligible, domestic institutions, to expose students to meritorious research projects, and to strengthen the research environment of the applicant institution.

Society for the Teaching of Psychology - Partnerships Grants - 0 views

    The Society for The Teaching of Psychology (Division 2 of APA) is pleased to announce a program of small grants to promote communication and collaboration between psychology teachers from different institutions. Specifically, this program is intended to bring together individuals to engage in planned activities to promote the teaching of psychology or who desire to work together to think about the ways in which the teaching of psychology can be improved. Proposed activities could take the form of conferences or small meetings devoted to teaching-related topics, or could take the form of collaborative activities between specific individuals from different institutions that are intended to improve the teaching of psychology in some way (e.g., bringing together high school and college psychology students for an interactive or experiential program, development of programs devoted to mentoring future psychology teachers, programs to bring together and utilize specialized teaching resources from different institutions). Grant funds can be used to defray the costs of the collaborative activities or the meetings involving representatives from different institutions (e.g., materials, equipment, fees, travel, food). Activities funded by this program may result in peer-reviewed publications, but do not necessarily have to have this goal. Research collaborations that focus on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) are no longer eligible for funding through this grant program; those interested in obtaining funding to support SoTL should apply to STP's "Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Research Grant" program. Non-SoTL research collaborations that include a significant teaching component can be submitted for consideration; proposals for research collaborations that will have no impact on teaching or include no teaching-related activities are also not appropriate for this program.

    The goal of the grant program is to spawn new ideas and innovative practices that improve students' mental health and to share these ideas with other college healthcare professionals through presentations at state, regional, and national conferences and in publications in college health related periodicals. The award may be used for national and/or regional conferences, CMTE (continuing music therapy education) courses, and/or other continuing education courses that meet the Educational Activity guidelines as established by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT). CBMT guidelines state that educational activities must be at least five contact hours in duration, and must relate to the CBMT Examination Content Outline, as published in the CBMT Recertification Manual. The award may not be used for undergraduate coursework. The award may be used for post-undergraduate coursework as it relates to the clinical practice of music therapy.

    The American Psychological Foundation is accepting applications for the 2015 Lizette Peterson Homer Memorial Injury Research Grant. Through the annual program, APF will award one $5,000 grant in support of research on the psychological and behavioral aspects of the prevention of injuries in children and adolescents as reflected in the pediatric psychological interests of the late Lizette Peterson-Homer. To be eligible, applicants must be a student and/or faculty at an accredited university and demonstrate research competence and commitment to the field. In addition, IRB approval must be received from the host institution before funding can be awarded if human participants are involved.

Society for the Teaching of Psychology Instructional Resource Awards - 0 views

    Up to three awards of $1,500 each will be presented annually to enable recipients to complete substantive instructional research projects related to the teaching of psychology that will create resources suitable for distribution by the Office of Teaching Resources in Psychology and for posting on OTRP-Online. Proposals may be general in focus or specific to a particular psychology course or student population. Research may be empirical (e.g., an investigation to determine which strategies are most successful in preventing cheating), experiential (e.g. a critical summary and evaluation of time-tested methods of assessing learning in child development courses), or reviews of the literature on new topics in psychology  (e.g., producing an annotated bibliography of readings or Internet resources in cross-cultural psychology). Proposals to create internet sites will not be funded unless the posted resource captures the same information in a print-friendly file (.doc, .pdf, .rtf); given its mission to provide readers with high quality, peer-reviewed materials, OTRP will not link to outside Internet sources because they cannot be monitored continuously. The average IRA funding rate since tracking began in 2012 is 33 percent.

    With this Dear Colleague Letter, NSF is providing advance notice of a change in the eligibility of prospective applicants to the Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) to allow the community to plan accordingly. Effective as of the 2017 competition (Fall 2016 deadlines), NSF will limit graduate students to only one application to the GRFP, submitted either in the first year or in the second year of graduate school. No change is made to the eligibility of undergraduates, of bachelor's degree holders without any graduate study, or of individuals who have had an interruption in graduate study of at least two consecutive years.

    The purpose of this program is to train doctoral health psychology students, interns, and post-doctoral residents to provide integrated, interdisciplinary, behavioral health and Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and other Substance Use Disorder (SUD) 2 prevention and treatment services in high need and high demand areas. The NIMH seeks teams of researchers working at different levels of analysis and employing integrative, novel, and creative experimental approaches to address high-risk, high-impact questions in basic neuroscience research, or in translational research with the primary objectives of: (a) advancing the state of the science in basic brain and behavior research that will uncover and dissect the underlying mechanisms that will ultimately provide the foundation for understanding mental disorders; (b) supporting the integration and translation of basic and clinical neuroscience research on severe mental illnesses; and/or (c) advancing our understanding of the neurobehavioral developmental mechanisms and trajectories of psychopathology that begin in childhood and adolescence.
