The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai (PAS Chennai) seeks proposals for a project entitled "Women Shaping the Narrative in Media and Entertainment." Under this project, a grantee will conduct series of workshops and training programs on "Women First, Prosperity for All: Opportunities for Women in the Media and Entertainment Industry in South India." The workshop will highlight issues that preclude and challenge women from reaching their full potential in this industry and find practical solutions to address them. It will also highlight the economic and creative benefits of having more women in the workforce in this sector.

The Soros Justice Fellowships Program's Media Fellowships support writers, print and broadcast journalists, bloggers, filmmakers, and other individuals with distinctive voices proposing to complete media projects that engage and inform, spur debate and conversation, and catalyze change on important U.S. criminal justice issues. The Media Fellowships aim to mitigate the time, space, and market constraints that often discourage individuals from pursuing vital but marginalized, controversial, or unpopular topics in comprehensive and creative ways. Media Fellowships are 12 months in duration, and fellows are expected to make their projects their full-time work during the term of the fellowship. Projects can begin in either the spring or fall of 2014.

The Spectrum Collaboration Challenge will develop intelligent radio networks which can collaborate to manage and optimize the radio frequency (RF) spectrum in a complex dynamic, changing RF environment which consists of other collaborative radio networks, non-collaborative radio networks (which are incapable of adapting) and other potential interference sources. Successful networks will apply machine learning techniques and be able to optimize total spectrum usage by determining when, where and how to utilize its resources. The networks for all participant teams will be evaluated in a series of competitive, tournament-style events.

With the goal of promoting undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in Arts and Humanities education, the Arts and Humanities Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research will offer financial support for faculty to present on the process and/or results of undergraduate research at regional or national Arts and/or Humanities conferences. The awards will be from $600 and up to three will be awarded for presentations that have been accepted by Feb. 10, 2015, to be presented (or which have been presented) in the fall of 2014 or spring of 2015 (by June 1, 2015).

The FY 2016 CVE Grant Program supports programs, projects and activities that prevent recruitment or radicalization to violence by interrupting those efforts, building community-level resilience to them, and identifying the early signs of radicalization to violence and providing appropriate interventions through civic organizations, law enforcement or other entities. Community resilience in the CVE context means those communities where violent extremists routinely meet disinterest and opposition, recruitment attempts routinely fail, and communities know what tools and support are available to assist individuals that may be on a path towards violence.

America's Media Makers (AMM) grants support the following formats: interactive digital media; film and television projects; and radio projects. Interactive digital media may be websites, games, mobile applications, virtual environments, streaming video, podcasts, or other digital formats. Film and television projects may be single programs or a series addressing significant figures or events and drawing their content from humanities scholarship. They must be intended for national distribution. Radio projects may involve single programs, limited series, or segments within an ongoing program. They may also develop new humanities content to augment existing radio programming or add greater historical background or humanities analysis to the subjects of existing programs. They may be intended for regional or national distribution. NEH encourages projects that feature multiple formats to engage the public in the exploration of humanities ideas. Proposed projects might include complementary components that expand or deepen the audience's understanding of a subject: for example, museum exhibitions, book/film discussion programs, or other formats that engage audiences in new ways. America's Media Makers grants may not, however, be used to support programs' general operating costs. Production grants support the production and distribution of digital projects, films, television programs, radio programs, and related programs that promise to engage the public.

The Programme's objectives are achieved principally by awarding grants to applicants to locate relevant endangered archival collections, where possible to arrange their transfer to a suitable local archival home, and to deposit copies with local institutions and the British Library. Pilot projects are particularly welcomed, to investigate the survival of archival collections on a particular subject, in a discrete region, or in a specific format, and the feasibility of their recovery. To be considered for funding under the Programme, the archival material should relate to a 'pre-modern' period of a society's history. There is no prescriptive definition of this, but it may typically mean, for instance, any period before industrialisation. The relevant time period will therefore vary according to the society. For the purposes of the Programme, the term 'archival material' is interpreted widely to include rare printed books, newspapers and periodicals, audio and audio-visual materials, photographs and manuscripts.

The goal of the $1M Challenge Fund for Innovation in Journalism Education is to hack the journalism curriculum using customized versions of the teaching hospital model. The fund supports universities to partner with news organizations, and explore new ways of providing information to their local communities. Winners receive up to $35,000 in micro-grants to support live, local news experiments. Winners can then compete to win up to $100,000 in additional grand prizes for best project and evaluation. We've partnered with the Excellence and Ethics in Journalism Foundation, the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the Democracy Fund to launch this $1 million challenge over two years. Will this change the face of journalism education as we know it? We hope so. We know there are many educators, technologists, researchers, students and media professionals who are excited about collaboratively exploring the possibilities.

NEH is soliciting proposals from institutions to participate in the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP). NDNP is creating a national digital resource of historically significant newspapers published between 1836 and 1922, from all the states and U.S. territories. This searchable database will be permanently maintained at the Library of Congress (LC) and will be freely accessible via the Internet. (See the website, Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers.) An accompanying national newspaper directory of bibliographic and holdings information on the website directs users to newspaper titles available in all types of formats. During the course of its partnership with NEH, LC will also digitize and contribute to the NDNP database a significant number of newspaper pages drawn from its own collections. NEH intends to support projects in all states and U.S. territories, provided that sufficient funds allocated for this purpose are available. One organization within each U.S. state or territory will receive an award to collaborate with relevant state partners in this effort. 

The purpose of the "Civil Society: Mutual Accountability Project" is to strengthen the enabling environment for Nepali civil society and media, enhance the capacity of Nepali Civil Society Organizations (CSO) to collaboratively and constructively engage in policy advocacy, and support broad-based, cross-sectoral initiatives that monitor, report, and demand greater effectiveness and accountability in governance and public service delivery.

The American Pyschoanalytic Association is soliciting nominations for the 2013 Award for Excellence in Journalism. Established in 1999, the annual prize recognizes professional reporting of outstanding merit that contributes in an exceptional way to the public understanding of psychoanalytic and psychological principles and phenomena. Any person, including authors, may nominate an article. To be eligible, work must have been written in English, intended for the layperson, and have been first published between July 1, 2012, and June 30, 2013. Nominated work need not be specifically about psychoanalysis or psychotherapy and may critique or question psychoanalysis, as long as it advances understanding of human relationships and/or the life of the mind.

The Vilcek Foundation will award three prizes of $50,000 each to young fashion professionals who demonstrate outstanding early achievement. The Kennan Institute seeks fellowship applicants from diverse, policy-oriented sectors such as media, business, local government, law, civil society, and academia to examine important political, social, economic, cultural, and historical issues in Russia, Ukraine, and the region. Among the aims of the new fellowships are to build bridges between traditional academia and the policy world, as well as to maintain and increase collaboration among researchers from Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S.

The program is a two-part initiative designed to foster new connections between scholars and journalists covering international affairs and, to that end, offers an interrelated set of awards, including programming grants for universities and fellowships for scholars in the humanities and social sciences who study religion in international contexts. To be eligible, applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States as of the application deadline date; have a PhD degree that was conferred by the application deadline; and be able to attend and participate in two program-sponsored events.

The Los Angeles-based ECMC Foundation is accepting proposals from organizations or institutions interested in developing and managing a program to help a diverse cohort of journalists expand their awareness about postsecondary career and technical education. This competitive grant process will lead to the identification of one organization selected to receive funding. Proposed concepts should include a plan to recruit and select program participants, offer innovative programming to build a community of practice among participants, and provide ongoing support for journalists seeking to advance in their career and/or refine their skills. The ideal program will engage participants throughout their involvement, allow for the exchange of ideas, and offer mentorship opportunities.

The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee is the world's leading Jewish humanitarian assistance organization. The Neuffer Fellowship is designed for affiliated or freelance women journalists with at least three years of professional experience in journalism working in print, broadcast, or digital media. All nationalities are welcome to apply but non-native English speakers must have excellent written and verbal English skills in order to fully participate in and benefit from the program. The Fellow will complete research and coursework at MIT's Center for International Studies and journalism internships at The Boston Globe and The New York Times. The flexible structure of the program will provide the fellow with opportunities to pursue academic research and hone her reporting skills. Past fellows have taken advantage of opportunities to publish work under their byline through various media outlets.

The U.S. Mission in Iraq announces an open competition for eligible organizations to submit proposals for a cooperative agreement to develop and implement the Media Training for Journalists in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region program. Public Affairs Section (PA) Baghdad seeks to enable Iraqi and U.S. experts to engage with Iraqi audiences, in person and via virtual platforms, on a variety of topics in accordance with Mission Iraq goals through this program. The Media Training for Journalists in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region program will provide five to ten targeted trainings for Iraqi Kurdistan Region-based journalists to improve the overall level of professionalism and adherence to ethical standards. Trainings should focus on key demographics such as women, ethnic and religious minorities, journalists at religiously-affiliated media outlets and journalists from outlets considered primary news sources in regions recently controlled by ISIS.

To that end, four or five grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded to filmmakers in support of thought-provoking, vibrant, intelligent, original, and moving projects in the screenwriting or development phase that explore current social issues through plot, character, theme, and/or setting. Projects should have strong and recognizable social value and contribute to a greater public understanding of a disenfranchised group, identify an area where social change is needed, and/or bring to light a complex and/or inspirational story, condition, or issue.
